Considerato uno dei migliori album Rap di sempre, "Straight Out The Jungle" esce nel 1988 e rivoluziona.
I Jungle Brothers fanno il loro debutto con un disco eclettico e positivo, specialmente dal punto di vista dei testi: le liriche sono indirizzate a diverse tematiche, dalla spiritualità al divertirsi semplicemente in modo pacifico, affrontate con una mentalità sempre aperta e spesso dedite all'Afrocentrismo, che riguarda il forte rapporto dei membri con le proprie origini.
Ampio uso di scratching e samples prevalentemente ripresi dal Jazz che ne determinarono la coniazione del sottogenere Jazz Rap, pavimentando la via ad altri grandi gruppi quali De La Soul e A Tribe Called Quest.
La produzione risulta ancora un po' cruda ma l'ascolto scorre che è una meraviglia e non smette di stupire. Ci mostrano una parte intellettuale di questa musica, che non deve per forza essere volgare ed esplicita.
Gli spensierati "fratelli della giungla" erano troppo avanti per l'epoca e lo dimostrano gli esperimenti fatti unendo Hip Hop e musica House in "I'll House You", uno dei primissimi esempi di Hip House, le dosi di musica Africana della strumentale "Sounds Of The Safari", i ritmi incalzanti e "da videogioco" di "Because I Got It Like That", le chitarre funky e i sassofoni frizzanti della title-track "Straight Out The Jungle", tanto per citare qualche titolo.
Un disco che trasformerà notevolmente l'Hip Hop degli anni a venire.
