In assoluto il disco più pensato, più caldo e più riflessivo partorito dal fantastico trio americano che ci aveva già regalato delle piccole perle con i dischi precedenti.
Il nuovo millennio dei Karate si apre quindi con "Unsolved", autentico gioiello, jazz a tutti gli effetti. Il tepore delle corde della Stratocaster entra già nelle ossa dal primo pezzo, "Small Fires": i piccoli fraseggi sembrano invitare a un religioso silenzio, per cogliere ogni piccola sfumatura di quelle melodie accennate. Il basso, lunghissimo, sorregge il resto. L'attenzione è rotta da pezzi come "Sever" e "The Roots And The Ruins", quest'ultimo con un feeling delicatamente reggae che non stona affatto in mezzo a tutto questo jazz così "impegnato".
Un disco da ascoltare in cuffia: l'unico modo per non perdere neanche un sottile gemito della chitarra, un piccolo accento della cordiera del rullante nascosto sotto a tutto il resto, un sussurro della voce così "afona" di Geoff. Fatemi un favore, ascoltatelo solo se non siete di fretta.
