Cari lettori di DeBaser oggi recensisco un disco dei miei beniamini: i Kiss! Prima di recensirlo però devo fare una piccola introduzione.
Questo disco esce nel 1985 uno dei periodi di crisi dei Kiss perchè negli '80 imperversava la "musica" dance e i Kiss dovevano difendersi dagli attacchi di tutti i nuovi gruppi che stavano nascendo come conigli in quegli anni. I quattro però non riescono a fronteggiare le pressioni pubblicando, negli '80, sempre dischi mediocri tipo questo: "Asylum". Ma dopo questo "via alla recensione".
Il disco in questione parte subito benissimo con la track spettacolare: "King of the mountine" e qui gli assoli di Kulick si fanno sentire benissimo. La seconda é alquanto bruttina "Any way you slice it", la voce di Gene Simmons non pare molto in forma e ogni tanto "prende qualche stecca". Si prosegue alla terza traccia, una delle mie preferite in questo disco, "Who wants to be lonely" cantata dallo "Starchild". Attenzione però, c'è una cosa da notare, tutte le canzoni (più o meno tutte) iniziano sempre con la stessa nota o quasi. questo rende l'ascolto del disco più pesante del previsto. Poi però i Kiss si "ammosciano" e mettono nella tracklist una canzone scontata e monotona "Trial by fire" (l'intro di chitarra è stato palesemente rubato agli AC/DC) e anche in questa canzone Gene stona. L'album però continua con l'orribile "Love's a deadly weapon" dove praticamente le chitarre sono occultate dal suono della batteria micidiale di Carr (R.I.P. 1950-1991 -mitico Eric!!!). La canzone successiva è "I'm alive" e i Kiss sembrano tornati ai tempi d'oro; dopo questa i "Bacio" ci deliziano con "Tears are falling" bellissima e ricca di emozioni. Le canzoni successive "Secrety cruel" e "Radar for love" sono del tutto contestabili e orribili dal suono patetico. Il disco si chiude in bellezza con "Uh! All night", l'intro sembra il solito e ripetitivo delle canzoni di "Asylum" ma invece è in perfetto Kisstyle. I quattro amerciani però in questo disco hanno dimostrato la loro fragilità nei confronti delle circostanze e soprattutto l'incapacità di fare un buon disco, la tecnica non manca ma non sempre se si ha tecnica si fanno belle canzoni.
