"Vorrei l'ultimo dei Kiss per favore"
Quanto mi mancava dire questa frase in un negozio di dischi, e ormai mi ero quasi rassegnato, tentando di dare spiegazioni come "Avranno capito che in studio non hanno più niente da dire, e hanno deciso di andare avanti a concerti"oppure "Gene Simmons era troppo impegnato a fare quello che dicono sappia fare molto bene e si è dimenticato come si suona il basso" o ancora la più probabile "Saranno scoppiati". Ma undici anni dopo l'ottimo "Psycho Circus" i quattro assatanati se ne escono con questo "Sonic Boom" che Gene, tra calcoli renali venduti su e-bay e slinguazzate qua e là, definisce come "Il miglior disco dei Kiss dai tempi di Destroyer e Love Gun", dichiarazione che pesa per un gruppo ormai dato per morto in studio.
Pochi credono veramente che questo sia un ritorno agli antichi splendori (compreso il sottoscritto), ma penso che tutti i fans che si rispettino daranno (o abbiano dato) almeno un'ascoltatina a questo nuovo lavoro.
Tra ripensamenti e cambi di idee i quattro Newyorkesi, da sempre fedeli al dio denaro, decidono di pubblicare questo album, puntando sul motto "anche se fa schifo la gente lo comprerà lo stesso", ma c'è un piccolo particolare: l'album non fa schifo.
Il cd si propone come un viaggio in una decappottabile fiammante, un viaggio che parte dagli anni 70 e arriva ai giorni nostri, in cui si alternano pezzi duri a potenziali hit da radio, in un album pieno di grinta suonato da vecchi ragazzini che a quanto pare ancora si divertono a strillare e a far baldoria come matti.
Inserisco il cd, che si apre con "Modern Day Delilah", fin dalle note iniziali non si può che esclamare: "cazzo sono i Kiss!"si prosegue avanti con le tracce mentre Gene e Paul si alternano al microfono si resta sempre più a bocca aperta, con ritornelli che rimangono in mente subito, riff azzeccatissimi e assoli di chitarra taglienti in tipico stile Kiss.
Ogni brano è diverso dal precedente ma mantiene la stessa linea, spiccano "Never Enough", "Stand" e l'incredibile "All The Glory" cantata da un Eric Singer molti ispirato, "I'm An Animal" è la "God Of Thunder" del disco, con un assolo eccezionale nel finale e un Gene Simmons sempre più indemoniato al microfono. Ma non c'è un brano sottotono, tutti sono all'altezza, ispirati, veloci, taglienti e maledettamente orecchiabili. Questo "Sonic Boom" scorre veloce, con una freschezza tipica dei primi lavori, ma con l'aggiunta dell'esperienza (e paraculaggine) che solo i veterani hanno, la copertina rimanda a "Rock N' Roll Over", e poteva essere una spia che poteva indicarci che i Kiss ormai sanno solo ripetersi, come molti sostengono, ma questo album zittisce tutti, fan e non, chi se l'aspettava da questi ultra-cinquantenni un album del genere?
Grinta da vendere e coglioni fumanti, un disco con le palle, senza mezzi termini, che forse starà un po' stretto nello stereo di casa vostra, ma sarà perfetto una volta che lo sentirete in macchina. Vedrete che il vostro dito premerà ripetute volte il tasto per alzare il volume, in modo che quando passerete tutti si gireranno, e forse qualche nostalgico si fermerà per dirvi: "Ma questi sono..." e voi risponderete con aria saccente : " Sono i Kiss caro".
E ve ne andrete sgommando, convinti che per 45 minuti buoni siete tornati negli anni 70.
