Non mi è mai facile capire perchè certe volte vengo colpito da album come questo, apparentemente "banale" eppure mi è entrato immediatamente in testa.. il ritmo, l'atmosfera molto 80's mi ha conquistato, il canto che ricorderà sicuramente a molti qua dentro Ian Curtis.
Nel 1991 questo trio capitanato dal "frigido" frontman Patrick Fitzgerald pubblica questo disco che di fatto è un mix tra un Dream Pop d'annata ed Alternative novantiano, nel lavoro precedente troviamo tracce alquanto dimenticabili, in questo lavoro la band porta avanti questo stile Dream Pop fino a fine album, il sound rimane statico, la voce non eccede quasi mai (a parte il "always corpses at breakfast time" sul finale di "quick as rainbows") probabilmente questa è la forza della band, portare avanti un sound talmente coinvolgente, sentimentale da conquistare subito l'ascoltatore.
Ho scoperto questo album grazie a youtube, all'inizio ero quasi estasiato...poi mi sono accorto di una cosa....Gli Editors di merda copiano questi qua al 200%...e infatti su internet l'unica nota relativa alla band è appunto la vicinanza tra la voce di Fitzgerald ed il vocalist degli Editors (paradosso oltretutto visto che lo stesso Fitzgerald ha "coniato" la vocalità di Ian Curtis).
Come tracks si segnalano appunto "Quick As Rainbows" "Aspray" (sembra un pezzo degli Smiths praticamente), " Within The Daze Of Passion" e "Drive That Fast", la copertina richiama in parte "La Grande Onda Di Kanagawa" di Hokusai (presente anche nel "Live In Japan" della P.F.M.).
C'è poco altro da scrivere su questo raro album, è l'ideale se siete dei foot fetish maniacs e volete leccare i piedi alla vostra mistress, è il sottofondo ideale (dopo "Disintegration" dei Cure) i lavori successivi sono sicuramente mediocri così come il precedente, personalmente segnalerei questo, una grande promessa non mantenuta?
Direi di no, anche se potevano proporre di meglio con i lavori successivi
