Linton Kwesi Johnson è il vero e proprio padrino della musica Dub, è il Dub Poetry per eccellenza, è la Jamaica cantata dall'Inghilterra, è il sole e l'irruenza jamaicana che si scontra con la pioggia e la pacatezza inglese. Racconta la condizione di cittadino jamaicano in terra britannica con tutto quello che comporta: storie di povertà, segregazione razziale e violenza, ma anche una grande volontà di rinascere e di risorgere dalle macerie di Babilonia.
Senza di lui il "Bristol Sound" così come lo conosciamo non sarebbe esistito. Le sue canzoni sono vere e proprie poesie-politiche, appassionate invettive contro tutte le ingiustizie e le prepotenze. La sua voce da cui traspare l'inconfondibile accento giamaicano è una forza della natura, mai sopra le righe sempre discretamente pungente, una sorta di professore, di pastore pronto ad indottrinare i suoi fedeli.
Forces of Victory è tra i dischi più belli della sua produzione
iniziata sul finire degli anni '70. Ci sono pezzi come "Sonny's Lettah", straziante e ideale lettera dal carcere di un ragazzo alla sua ipotetica madre; la bellissima "Indipendent Intavenshan", ma anche "Fite Dem Back" e la stessa "Forces of Victory che da il titolo all'album, che si chiude con la malinconica "Time Come".
Un "MUST" per tutti gli amanti del genere insieme a "Bass Culture"... e comunque un ottimo disco di musica Dub.
