Premetto che è la mia prima recensione, quindi nel caso in cui la gente la giudichi di basso livello posso anche capire. Il cd di cui intendo parlarvi “Ahead Of The Lions”, è il secondo della discografia dei Living Things, anche se l’album precedente, “Black Skies in Broad Daylight” contiene gran parte delle canzoni presenti in questo album.
E’ stato stampato l’anno scorso, ma qui in Italia è uscito da poco. Devo ammettere che ho comprato questo cd dopo aver visto il video di “Bom Bom Bom”, primo singolo dell’ album, che mi ha colpito subito per la sua energia musicale ma anche per il bellissimo accompagnamento visivo. Effettivamente la mia impressione iniziale, quella di una band che sa fare del buon hard-rock, è stata confermata in quasi tutti le 12 tracce dell’album. Ritengo molto utile e logico parlare di quelle che ritengo le canzoni più significative e meglio rappresentative della band, anche se continuo a ripetere che tutte le canzoni si assestano più o meno su un 3 stelle abbondanti.
La prima canzone “Bombs Below” rende subito l’idea di quanta potenza riescano a sprigionare questi ragazzi, dure schitarrate, batteria potente e una voce molto particolare dalla quale uno non si aspetterebbe di trovarci dietro l’ugola di un giovane bianco tutto pelle e ossa. “I Owe” bellissima canzone, sprizza energia da tutti i pori e con la successiva “Bom Bom Bom” le ritengo le due più belle. Quest’ultima, inizialmente tranquilla, con un riffettino un pò vintage che ci accompagnerà per tutta la canzone sale sempre di più fino a esplodere con la voce del cantante accompagnata da chitarre/synth e batteria . ”New Year”, canzone molto carina con un bel ritornello. “March in Daylight”, gli ingredienti sono sempre gli stessi ma la capacità di creare energia ad ogni canzone, adottando testi molto impegnati, fa si che non risultino mai banali.“Keep It Till You Fold”, la pausa dovuta alle nostre orecchie, canzone abbastanza calma e di piacevolissimo ascolto. “Monster Of Man”, fantastica canzone, parte con solo la batteria e il basso che accompagnano il fraseggio incalzante del cantante Lillian Berlin, suoni in sotto fondo si aggiungono, fino ad arrivare alla tanto sospirata chitarra distorta che riporta a un non so che di familiare.
A parer mio proprio un bel cd che mi fa sperare per un futuro di questa giovane band, tutta chitarre e testi ultra-politicizzati.
