Fino a un mese fa mi dicevo: "Quanto avrei dato per assistere ad un concerto dei Mano Negra dal vivo!". Ed ora senza annunci nè alcun altro tipo di pubblicità (come hanno sempre fatto) esce questo doppio DVD che racchiude in modo sintetico l'incredibile storia della band polietnica, storia che a tratti appare davvero romanzesca. Quest'ultimo lavoro si articola in quattro parti essenziali: Pura Vida's, un film della durata di 96' che montando insieme documenti inediti e risalenti a più di vent'anni fa ricostruisce passo dopo passo l'esistenza della band con tutto quel che ne seguì, il tutto condito da interessanti commenti dei membri del gruppo.
Manu e compagni parlano di come si formò la band, nata dalla scissione dei migliori gruppi alternativi francesi quali Joint de Culasse, Hot Pants e Casse Piedes. I Mano Negra si esibivano davanti ad un pubblico proletario, rifuiutando più volte di suonare allo Zenith, locale molto in vista di Parigi. Fu così che, di colpo, pubblicando un album dal nome Patchanka divennero noti ai più. . . e se già questo vi sembra incredibile non sto a raccontarvi quello che successe dopo: guradatevi il film, le immagini parleranno da sole . Rock 'n Roll Band (82') è un puzzle di tutte le canzoni più belle della Mano durante i lives in giro per il mondo; di qui si può apprezzare la parte migliore di questo storico gruppo: il live. L'energia pura scatenata dalla sola musica, un ritmo che non ha bisogno di testi impegnati o numeri da circo con gli strumenti (per fare un esempio, Tonio, il trombettista della band, ammette di saper suonare 3 note), ma è una musica che si basa su improvvisazione ed una cadenza irresistibile. Tournèe Generàle (56') contiene le riprese dello storico concerto nel quartiere di Pigalle, il tempio parigino del sesso. Magnifiche le esecuzioni di "Ronde de Nuit", "Sidi H'Bibi" e "Pas Assez de Toi", concerto, come al solito, vitaminico ed esplosivo, dove i cantanti si gettano sul pubblico e gli spettatori salgono indisturbati sul palco per ballare e cantare. "Puta's Fever" (50') è invece un film che illustra l'omonimo album, che ne fa la colonna sonora. Un documento in cui vengono magistralmente mischiate immagini e suoni (prodotto sempre dall'amico di Manu, Francois Bergeron). In più ci sono videoclip (molto belli quelli di Sueno de Solentiname e Out of Time Man), brani inediti e immagini live di canzoni eseguite dal cantante Manu Chao con altri gruppi, tra cui, da ricordare, "All Alone 'n Lonely", nel quale la voce dei Mano Negra dà il meglio di sé.
