Io non ci riesco, non posso fare a meno di mettermi e rimettermi a riascoltare le note dolci di questo album. Mi è stato segnalato da un amico e mi sono messo all'ascolto in un momento di relax, non ascoltandolo nemmeno completamente, ma non ho potuto impedirmi di tornarci sopra perché le note di "Postcard From A Dark Star" (prima song del disco) mi avevano catturato.
Da lì si è partiti per le note velate di tristezza e malinconia di "Dangerous Heady Love Scheme" ("Love is not true when it’s infatuation - The bond is not there in fascination"), canzoni in cui l'amore la fa sempre da padrone e l'inarrivabile ricerca della felicità è sempre più inarrivabile ("There’s a light that shines - It’s always distant - It goes on and off and on and off" - My Name Is Sad And At Sea) e quindi ci si deve raccogliere con noi stessi per dare un senso al tutto o alla disperazione ("In my warm cigarette room - Every time I go to sleep I weep weep weep weep - Every time I start to cry why why why why" - Warm Cigarette Room).
Merz in realtà risponde al nome di Conrad Lambert da Bristol (almeno dovrebbe vivere lì), curioso personaggio con amici in almeno 48 paesi, parenti in Mongolia e grande viaggiatore (così si racconta nel sito ufficiale).
I suoni sono melodie elettroniche che non possono fare a meno di catturare l'ascolto e le linee di piano danno quel tocco di dolcezza senza mai essere stucchevoli, lasciando tutto lo spazio necessario alla voce di Lambert per stregarci con le sue affanose ricerche sentimentali.
