Rispolverando un pò tra i vecchi cd mai sentiti o sentiti poco caccio fuori questo album dei Metalium pagato solo 5 euro a una bancarella di cd usati. L'ho ascoltato solo quel giorno che l'ho comprato e massimo due-tre volte altre.
Rimedio all'errore, il cd ora lo metto nel raccoglitore con quelli che ascolto abitualmente.
Si perchè la cover di "Smoke On The Water" dei Deep Purple è semplicemente una figata. Scheggie di suoni futuristici, una batteria pesante e granitica, una chitarra che squarta il suono in sottofondo come una strage in mitragliatrice, un basso simile a una raffica di frustate. Prendete "Smoke On The Water" originale, e aumentatene a 100 l'aggressività, aggiungeteci sfondi thrash metal ed ecco a voi come suona quella proposta dai Metalium qui in Millennium Metal Chapter One. Assoloni, riff, e pezzi strumentali di un hottimo heavy metal duro che accompagnia il riff rock più famoso del mondo (quello appunto di "Smoke On The Water") e poi sul finale un ottima lezioncina di come fondere heavy e thrash per uno stacchetto conclusivo. Questa canzone vale tutto il cd
Per il resto che dire, dei Metalium so solo che di album ce n'è un bel po' e che i recensori delle riviste ne parlano bene, infatti in questo l'impressione è molto buona. I Metalium stampano sostanzialmente un classico power metal tedesco.
Tedesco però, quindi attenzione non troverete mai le sinfonie dragonesche ma bensì un heavy metal veloce aggressivo e con incursioni di sano thrash. Questo dei Metalium poi si personalizza in una atmosfera semi fantascientifica, una via di mezzo tra un contesto classico e un altro spaziale, robotico, e si nota anche dall'artwork e da un disegnio del bootleg che raffigura un guerriero metà uomo e metà robot munito di spada laser che esce da un portale affacciato sulla metropoli del presente, dove ha fatto saccheggi e razzie.
Un cd che vi consiglio di ascoltare, ma attenzione non troverete qualcosa di innovativo o originale, perchè essendo appunto il genere in questione un classico power metal di origine tedesca, come tale rimane non proponendo niente di veramente speciale se non una eccellente padronanza tecnica.
Velocità, cattiveria e ritornelli tendenti al melodico sono la ricetta di tutte le canzoni.
Questo album non è il massimo e non è da avere a tutti i costi. Però è suonato bene, e quindi può deliziare molti timpani.
