Premetto una cosa: sono un vero e proprio novellino, non ho mai scritto una recensione su DeBaser, quindi abbiate un po' di pietà, per favore. E penso anche che non sia giusto nascondervi la mia vera età: sono nato nel 1993, e non ci tengo a nasconderlo. Con questo inizio la mia recensione.
"Thriller", l'album capolavoro di Michael Jackson (di cui sono e sempre rimarrò un grandissimo estimatore), è sicuramente qualcosa di inimmaginabile, un album incredibile nella sua completezza e varietà. Ma è soprattutto uno il dato che ci fa barcollare davanti a questa copertina: questo qua, signori è l'album più venduto nella storia della musica.

Bene. Possiamo iniziare con la recensione vera e propria.
"Wanna Be Startin' Somethin" è secondo me un'ottima canzone per iniziare un album di questo genere. Le sue note decisamente ballabili la rendono un gran bel pezzo di dance/soul music, che, trattandosi di Michael Jackson, non guasta mai.
"Baby Be Mine", invece, ci trasferisce su tutt'altre frequenze: qui si parla di R&B vero, con una voce calda e tremendamente sensuale che ti prende e non ti lascia più
"The Girel Is Mine" è, a parer mio, un pesce fuor d'acqua in quest'album. Spiego immediatamente perchè: si tratta di uno schema semplice, pop secco, definitivo. Non ha niente a che vedere con le restanti otto stupende, ma decisamente più sofisticate canzoni.
"Thriller" è la giusta title track per un disco di MJ. Da all'album un certo fascino che certo non darebbe un titolo come "The Lady In My Life" o "P.Y.T.". Il brano parla da sè: è una miscellanea di tutto quello che Jacko ci offre in quest'album. Perchè quando si riesce a rendere una canzone allo stesso tempo dance e R&B, pop e rock, bisogna avere un certo talento. Quando poi a tutto questo si aggiungono un testo studiatissimo e terrificante e un intermezzo con la voce di Vincent Price, l'opera può dirsi dotata anche della ciliegina sulla torta.
Passiamo a "Beat It": altro brano, altro genere. Si passa quasi al rock vero, con un'interessantissima sezione strumentale di chitarra elettrica che spezza un po' il ritmo alla straordinaria voce del re del Pop, per evitare che l'ascoltatore si addormenti sul ritornello semplice e geniale interpretato alla grande dal vuon vecchio Michael.
"Human Nature" è un altro grandissimo capolavoro tratto da "Thriller". Un testo meraviglioso, quasi filosofico che riflette sull'uomo e su quello che lo circonda si accorda anche qui in perfetta armonia con delle dolcissime note di leggero R&B.
Con "P.Y.T." si torna invece sulle ritmiche dance che contraddistinguono il periodo a cavallo tra gli anni settanta e ottanta, anche qui MJ ci regala un bell'intermezzo e una grande prestazione, con un grandissimo ritmo e un ritornello che fatica ad uscirti dalla testa per un bel po'.
"The Lady In My Life" conclude benissimo e in modo più che rilassante questo fantastico album, persuadendoci con una delle più dolci e melodiche canzoni d'amore di Michael.
Ho lasciato di proposito alla fine "Billie Jean". Che dire? Un capolavoro, l'essenza di MJ, tanti, tantissimi premi per questo fantastico pezzo di Pop/R&B che è la vera perla trascinatrice di "Thriller", forse il più grande successo di tutti i tempi per Michael Jackson, una vera chicca intersecata alla perfezione più o meno a metà del cd.
Concludo dicendo che secondo la mia opinione questo non è un semplice album, è una vera opera d'arte, è semplicemente perfetto nella sua varietà, senza però mai esagerare.

Thriller rappresenta un caso a sè in assoluto, sicuramente il più accreditato candidato al competitivo ruolo di album-simbolo culturale di un decennio.
Michael Jackson è un fenomeno così singolare che si potrebbe aver ascoltato tutta la sua discografia senza capire cosa questo disco ha da offrire.
