Voglio recensire Smear Campaign, il nuovo album dei Napalm Death. Io non sono un fanatico del Grindcore, ma i Napalm Death mi sono sempre piaciuti perchè sono tra i pochi musicisti di questo genere, oltre che gli inventori, a proporre sempre qualcosa di nuovo e particolare negli album. Infatti ho trovato questo album molto particolare.
L'album si apre con "Weltschmerz", un intro che inizia solo con una sorta di arpeggio di chitarra, poi si sentono suoni elettronici e infine delle tastiere. In sè non è niente di particolare, ma dai Napalm Death non me l'aspettavo. La seconda canzone si intitola "Sink fast let go", in cui si alternano la voce del chitarrista a quella del cantante. La seconda canzone si intitola "Fatalist", e non è niente di speciale, mentre nella terza canzone, "Puritanical punishment beating", sono presenti molti cambiamenti di ritmo e stacchi di chitarra. La quarta traccia, "Well all is said and done", è bella ma un pò ripetitiva perché viene ripetuto tantissime volte il ritornello. La canzone che segue invece, "Freedom is the wage of sin", è degna di nota perché molto varia sia per quanto riguarda la chitarra sia per la batteria. "In deference", la traccia che segue, è sulla stessa linea delle precedenti. La canzone "Short lived" è una delle più veloci dell'album, dove il batterista batte ritmi velocissimi. "Identity crisis" è la mia canzone preferita nell'album, con riff pesantissimi. Anche la traccia che segue, "Shattered existence", è caratterizzata da potentissimi riff stoppati. "Eyes right out" inizia con un bellissimo giro di basso. "Warped beyond logic" e "Rabid wolves of Chris" sono le canzoni più corte dell'album, "Deaf and dumbstruck" è la più brutta del disco. Bellissima invece la penultima canzone, "Persona non grata", con un inaspettato titolo in italiano. L'ultima traccia, "Smear Campaign", è una sorta di outro.
Nell'album quasi tutte le canzoni durano più di tre minuti, ma non lo si può definire un album Death Metal. In poche parole i Napalm Death non hanno assolutamente voglia di smettere di suonare, anzi sono tornati più determinati che mai.
