Counting Down the Days è il terzo album di Natalie Imbruglia.
Sono ormai passati 4 lunghi anni dall'uscita di White Lilies Island e, Counting Down the Days, ha richiesto 3 anni di lavoro.
Counting Down the Days è un lavoro decisamente omogeneo, composto sia da canzoni allegre che da ballate tristi e malinconiche.
Il talento che ha Natalie di scrivere e comporre canzoni (insieme ai produttori), unito alla sua grande espressione vocale, rende l'album piacevole all'ascolto. Natalie ha co-scritto e co-prodotto 10 delle 12 tracce dell'album, tra cui il primo famosissimo singolo Shiver, uscito il 21 Marzo 2005.
Counting Down The Days è il lungo cammino artistico che Natalie ha percorso durante l'attesa di terminare il lavoro per ritornare dal proprio marito, Daniel Johns (ex marito). La title track parla della nostalgia del marito e della nostalgia di casa; ci racconta ciò che si prova quando ami una persona ed essa si trova dall'altra parte del mondo e tu conti i giorni aspettando il termine di questa sofferenza.
Il conto alla rovescia inizia proprio con Starting Today; dove la dolce voce di Natalie si fonde con una chitarra acustica che fa da sottofondo a tutto il brano. Ottima apertura per un concept album come Counting Down the Days. Si continua con Shiver e Satisfied. Shiver, che tutti noi conosciamo, ti entra subito in testa grazie a quel ritornello tipicamente pop e quella voce limpida di Natalie che ti risuona nella testa.
Arriva finalmente la title track Counting Down the Days, canzone prodotta magnificamente dall'ascolto decisamente fresco e romantico. La parte più interessante rimane sicuramente quella della seconda strofa, dove il suono di un violoncello viene abbinato a strane distorsioni che ricordano il verso di una balena. Correndo verso la fine si rimane incollati a due tracce completamente diverse tra di loro: When You're Sleeping e Honeycomb Child. La prima mischia archi e chitarra, risultando una delle migliori tracce dell'album. La chiusura di Honeycomb Child può lasciare molto perplessi, con una composizione molto malinconica, triste e ansiosa; che si stacca completamente da ciò che è stato l'album nelle sue precedenti 11 tracce. Un carillon fa da sottofondo per tutti i 4 minuti della canzone mentre beat elettronici e l'eco della voce di Natalie crea quell'effetto soporifero d'addio.
Natalie è cresciuta come artista. La sua sicurezza è aumentata ed è ciò che rende Counting Down the Days un prodotto di pop maturo.

Solo due singoli sono stati estratti dall'album, a causa della poca professionalità della Brightside Recordings che ha smesso di promuovere l'album dopo neanche 5 mesi dalla uscita, nonostante l'album fosse arrivato primo in classifica UK e avesse venduto 800.000 copie a livello mondiale.
