Prima sgasata, seconda sgasata, il motore romba minaccioso, siamo pronti, via!
Un miliardo di watt ci travolgono, il basso e le due chitarre sono distorte in maniera estrema e tremendamente deliziosa, Blue Snow è come un cazzotto in pieno volto, sporca, rozza e maledetta.
Sono gli Orange Goblin, cinque ragazzi inglesi cazzoni e cattivi al punto giusto decisi a non fare prigionieri. Il loro è uno Stoner Rock molto energico, estremamente Heavy-Metal oriented (a differenza di quello più psichedelico, ad esempio, dei loro cugini Kyuss), che si fa apprezzare da subito per la sua immediatezza sonora, volta all'headbanging sfrenato e al massacro collettivo.
Riff Sabbathiani in primo piano, Chris Turner dietro le pelli a pestare come un indiavolato e il cantato di Ben Ward graffiante come un pugnale. Ecco le componenti vincenti di questo full-lenght dei Goblin Arancioni.
Gli highlights non si contano, l'album è tutto un susseguirsi di canzoni violente, impregnate dell'atmosfera fumosa, tutto whisky e cantine, tipica dello Stoner; ci si trova catapultati in un deserto pieno zeppo di motociclisti e belle donne, con un sole caldissimo e continue tempeste di sabbia. Un trip allucinante ed allucinato attraverso la mente umana, non raffinato ma assolutamente efficace e dirompente.
Qualche furtarello sonoro quà e là (sì, lo sappiamo tutti che Snail Hook nella progressione dopo metà canzone è identica a Children of the Grave dei Black Sabbath) non fanno calare la qualità complessiva di questo cd, davvero meraviglioso.
Menzione in particolare per la classica ballata Stoner, Shine, che rappresenta in pieno quella canzone che esibisci con piacere quando, fumato e felice, i tuoi amici ti chiedono qualcosa "per viaggiare": chitarre distorte, liriche sognanti e riff liquidi pronti per condire il tour collettivo.
Ci sarebbe molto altro da dire, ma non vi voglio anticipare troppe cose. Un disco da ascoltare, riascoltare ed amare per sempre! Una band agli inizi di carriera, ma per nulla acerba e con le idee chiare in mente.
