Se vi chiedete perché il tanto osannato (almeno dai suoi "fan") Ville Laihiala fatichi a trovare fama e gloria, la risposta ce l'avete in questo album.
Etichettato dai media come gothic metal, all'atto pratico giustificato solo dai testi, "Lust Stained Despair" è il secondo lavoro dei Poisonblack.
Undici tracce molto piacevoli da ascoltare, ma prive di una vera anima, primo perché l'originalità non la fa da padrone, secondo perché nemmeno i testi brillano di luce propria. Difficile quindi andare oltre la sufficienza con questi presupposti che saltano fuori alla prima analisi e quasi dubito rischiano di far cadere il disco nel dimenticatoio.
Lust Stained Despair si apre con "Nothing Else Remains", che introduce ai temi e al sound che troveremo per tutto l'album (sebbene sia presente l'unico assolo decente di tutto l'album), continua con "Hollow Be My Name", una buona idea, ma nulla più. Da qui in poi mediocrità, il livello si alza solo con "Rush" e "Nail", le canzoni più belle dell'album, e si abbassa decisamente con "Pain Becomes Me" , una ballata completamente fuori luogo per la voce del cantante.
In sostanza quindi una opportunità sprecata: continui muri di chitarra e qualche effetto elettronico fanno supporto alla voce cavernosa di Ville per tutto l'album, il tutto è tecnicamente ben fatto, ma la mancanza cronica di originalità e di capacità creativa non fa decollare il lavoro, che per la leggerezza tenuta resta rivolto più agli amanti dell'alternative che delle sonorità metal.
Veramente eccellenti la copertina e il libretto del CD.
