Per un neofita che voglia recensire una qualsiasi opera di Prince, optare per "Emancipation" può rivelarsi una pessima scelta, o peggio costituire un'inutile forma di presunzione.
Tuttavia la recensione di questo triplo cd mancava e me ne incarico anche solo per il fatto che, da nuovo adepto, questo è stato il primo lavoro del genietto ad atterrare sul mio lettore (poi ovviamente sono arrivati gli altri di cui si è lungamente scritto e commentato).
Va premesso che il volo della tripla navicella è stata dirottata verso la mia stanzetta da alacri esercenti che provvidenzialmente lo hanno messo in stra-specialprice nell'attesa che qualcuno cogliesse. Un acquisto quindi decisamente in punta di piedi. Oltre a ciò devo dire che il primo approccio non è stato dei più entusiasti, 36 canzoni 3 anime diverse si è scritto: il primo cd per piedi, il secondo per il cuore, il terzo per la mente. Leggasi anche 1=funk, 2=ballads; 3=computer. Troppa roba appunto per le mie orecchie vergini. Ma forse questa verginità musicale è stata un bene, poiché la fama universalmente incontrastata di Prince ha determinato un ascolto continuo che mi ha permesso di legarmi particolarmente a questo triplo anche a posteriori di capolavori princeiani successivamente ascoltati ed amati.
Ancora oggi nulla mi discosta dall'assunto che adoro Prince semplicemente perché è Prince, la mia cultura musicale funk/soul continua a rimanere magrina riducendo drasticamente la precisione di analisi "sul pezzo".
Quello che posso dire è comunque che all'interno del cofanetto ci sono almeno una decina di capolavori: Jam Of The Year, Betcha By Golly Wow, Soul Sanctuary, New World per citarne alcuni. Così come ci sono pezzi abbastanza innocui e, azzardo, altri piuttosto bruttini: Courtin time, Mr Happy. Sicuramente il disco più riuscito è il secondo, omogeneo ed emozionante (Curious Child e One kiss at a time su tutte). In definitiva, il prodotto in sé meriterebbe tre pallini e credo che pochi fan avranno da obiettare. Per il quarto pallino va aperta una parentesi e magari un dibattito.
Leggo che la prolificità di Prince viene spesso criticata in favore di una produzione più dilatata nei tempi e, auspicatamente, garante di lavori più "ficcanti". Insomma non so.. voglio dire siamo convinti che un lavoro per alcuni trascurabile, lo sia anche per altri? Se guardo la lista delle preferenze, i fan di Mr Nelson si distinguono fra quelli che adorano la fase "Revolution", quelli che si fermano a "SOTT" e storcono il naso su "LOVESEXY" (che personalmente supera di gran lunga la pioggia viola) e quelli che buttano alle ortiche tutto "3121" e "Planet Earth".
È molto difficile dire a Prince di fermarsi e non sarò io di certo a sperarlo. Forse inconsapevolmente Prince sa che i suoi lavori conquistano COMUNQUE, a prescindere dai confronti con i suoi Must degli anni 80, e che ci sarà sempre qualcuno che avrà gioito della pubblicazione anche del più platealmente bistrattato album.
Anzi sono certo che lo sa.. non era lui a cantare "Joy" in "repetition"?
