Rod Stewart: Body Wishes
"When i give my heart again i know it's gonna last forever, no one tell me where or when it's gonna last forever" così recita il ritornello del famoso brano Baby Jane del 12° album realizzato dallo Stewart anni 80.
Pubblicato il 10 Giugno 1983 e rilasciato dalla Warner Bros. Records, l'album Body Wishes venne definito dalla rivista Rolling Stones e da Allmusic come "uno dei peggiori sforzi di Rod Stewart''.. Critica ingiusta e sbagliata a mio parere! Se si pensa che il vecchio Rod ha sempre saputo adattarsi ai cambiamenti degli stili musicali nel corso degli anni e proprio adesso, mentre sto scrivendo e ascoltando per l'ennesima volta quest'album mi domando e cerco di capacitarmi del motivo per il quale esso abbia ricevuto una critica così dura e aspra.
L'album presenta 10 brani del tutto originali e diversi dai lavori precedenti dell'artista e direi che musicalmente si adattano in modo perfetto con lo stile della musica anni 80! Body Wishes si apre con la canzone "Dancin'Alone", canzone spiritosa a metà tra uno stile rock e dance molto orecchiabile e piacevole. La seconda canzone è "Baby Jane", è lei la "Signora dell'album!", bellissima sia per le parole del testo che per la base musicale! Una canzone tutta rock in cui risalta la voce roca della Star e che dopo un paio di minuti lascia spazio a un'emozionante suono di sassofano, un brano di ottima qualità quindi, che si piazzerà al 1° posto nel Regno Unito e al 14° negli US.
Più o meno dello stesso genere delle due canzoni citate sono anche i brani "Move Me", "What Am I Gonna Do (I'm So In Love With You)", "Ghetto Blastere" e "Ready Now", tutte movimentate e di tutto rispetto. Ma l'album non è fatto solo di brani spinti, ma anche di capolavori romantici e rilassanti come "Sweet Surrender" in cui si può ammirare la voce inimitabile del cantante, un brano tipico del vecchio Rod che raccontando come di abitudine situazioni romantiche, sa mischiare ironia e sentimentalismo in una canzone degna a mio parere di essere piazzata tra le migliori!
Il resto non è da meno, le canzoni "Body Wishes", "Satisfied" e "Strangers Again" danno un tocco di misteriosità, infatti, lo stile dei tre brani è uno stile mai riscontrato nei precedenti lavori, ma comunque molto passionali che ne fanno uno dei momenti più frizzanti del disco e che fanno notare la bravura di Stewart nell'adattarsi a cambiamenti improvvisi di generi musicali.
Quindi l'album secondo me meriterebbe di essere rivalutato in modo positivo! È sicuramente un capolavoro dal punto di vista musicale, estremamente rilassante e piacevole che non dovrebbe mancare tra le migliori collezioni musicali, dopotutto parliamo di un disco che contiene brani cantati da uno degli artisti più inimitabili, prolefici e grandi della storia della musica!
