Adams spazia su vari fronti: ritmiche piuttosto "hard" si affacciano in "Nuclear", molti pezzi si ispirano al primo Bob Dylan ("You Will Always Be The Same" e "Cry On Demand"), c'è un nonsocchè di Springsteeniano in "Hallelujah" e di psichedelico in "Jesus (Don't Touch My Baby)".

01   Nuclear (03:25)

This is where the summer ends.
In a flash of pure destruction, no one wins.
Go nuclear, nuclear.
The violets in my eyelids goin' red
Sentimental geek.
Shut up and go to sleep.

Oh ohhhhhh.

The calm, the beach and the remains.
Of the bathing suits and Porsches all in flames.
Go nuclear, nuclear.
When I saw her and the Yankees lost to the Braves.
Sentimental geek. Sentimental Geek. Sentimental Geek.
Shut up and go to sleep.

Give me an answer.............

02   Hallelujah (03:10)

I've been a desperate man
I've been sheltered by a lonely dream
There's a stranger here
Looking back above the bathroom sink
Every night I throw you out
Leave you stranded on the boulevard
You know that I use you up
I used you like I used a mop
Well the band's singing hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
You're all gone. Yeah, you're all gone.

If I could have a simple love
How would it feel and what would it mean?
I'd only trade you away
For Mary Magdalene
Oh, it wouldn't make me insane
And it would make me the king
And I wouldn't have to wait
Wait around for the real thing
Well the band's singing hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
You're all gone. Yeah, you're all gone.

Hallelujah
You're all gone. Oh yeah, yeah, hey.

03   You Will Always Be the Same (02:37)

04   Desire (03:41)

Two hearts fading, like a flower
And all this waiting, for the power,
For some answers, to this fire
Sinking slowly, the waters higher...mmm

Desire

Desire

With no secrets, no obsession
This time I'm speeding, with no direction,
Without a reson, what is this fire?
Burning slowly, my one and only...mmm

Desire

Desire

Desire

Desire

You know me, you don't mind waiting
You just can't show me, but God I'm praying
That you'll find me, and that you'll see me
That you'll run and never tire...mmm

09   Dear Chicago (02:13)

Dear Chicago,
You'll never guess.
You know the girl you said I'd meet someday?
Well, I've got something to confess.
She picked me up on Friday.
Asked me if she reminded me of you.
I just laughed and lit a cigarette,
said, "That's impossible to do."
Life's gotten simple since.
and it fluctuates so much,
happy, and sad, and back again.
We're not cryin out to much.
I think about you all the time,
it's strange and hard to deal.
I think about you lyin there.
And those blankets lie so still.
Nothing breathes here in the cold,
nothing moves or even smiles.
I've been thinking some of suicide,
but there's bars out here for miles.
I'm sorry about the every kiss,
every kiss you wasted bad.
I think the thing you said was true;
I'm gonna die alone and sad.
The wind's feelin real these days.
And baby, it hurts me some.
I never thought I'd feel so blue.
New York City, you're almost gone.
I think that I've fallen out of love.
I think I've fallen out of love.
I think, I've fallen out of love, with you.

10   Gimme a Sign (03:03)

Here's a picture of your lonely Fridays
Turned to nothing on a Friday night
Firecracker with a pile of empties
Detonated with a lonely fire
I see your face, I hear your voice
I touch the phone and wonder
Is this explosion gonna set me reeling?
Or just another thing to pull me under?
If you could give me anything tonight
Just a wink, or even just a sigh
I'll be okay, 'cause I've been waiting for a sign
I've been waiting for a sign, to come
Are you the one?

And I was breathless on a Sunday morning
And I was speechless on a Sunday night
For a lack of better understanding
Felt like an engine that just didn't need a tire
I see your face, I hear your voice
I touch the screen and wonder
And I been waiting for the sun to tell me
It's just been sitting here, I don't know why
If you could give me anything tonight
Just a wink, or even just a sigh
I'll be okay, 'cause I've been waiting for a sign
I've been waiting for a sign
I've been waiting for a sign
To come
