"The Inner Sanctum" è il diciasettesimo album in studio dei, Saxon, band heavy metal Inglese. In questo grandissimo lavoro, uscito sotto etichetta Steamhammer/SPV, hanno lavorato sodo il cantante Peter "Biff" Byford, i chitarristi Doug Scarrat e Paul Quinn, il bassista Nibbs Carter e Nigel Glockler alla batteria.
Analizziamo ora il disco: l'inizio è scoppiettante con "State Of Grace", capolavoro che presenta un apertura con cori molto cupi; in seguito lentamente si ode il ritmo della batteria e poi Biff comincia a cantare. Il ritmo della batteria in questa song è molto oppressivo, e che dire dell'assolo? Perfetto, sotto tutti i punti di vista, e viene eseguito in un punto dove la velocità della track è molto più lenta rispetto ai ritmi forsennati del riff del ritornello. Questa prima traccia fa presagire bene per il resto dell'album: "Need for Speed" è un grandissimo pezzo, molto veloce, con un eccellente drumming. Qui la voce di Biff, appare sia melodiosa nelle strofe e più "sporca" nel ritornello. Appunto la sua voce appare molto spinta. Anche qui l'assolo è molto veloce, eccellente per il buon lavoro del chitarrista Paul Quinn. "Let me Feel Your Power" presenta come nelle altre due precedenti un ritmo di batteria incredibile, oppressivo e maestoso.
In "Red Star Felling" vi sono anche parti acustiche dove la voce di Byford è molto più rilassata delle altre canzoni, per poi diventare molto più acuta nel ritornello. Tuttavia la song è molto meno "dura" delle precedenti. Segue "I've Got To Rock (To Stay Alive)", riff da paura è basso in perfetta sintonia con le chitarre. "If I Was You" è una delle canzoni più deboli dell'album, di gran lunga peggiore delle altre. L'unica nota positiva della track è l'assolo, molto bello. "Going Nowhere Fast" è un brano con un riff molto pesante come ai vecchi tempi dei Saxon: appunto questo è un brano molto classico, con delle parti in batteria, molto dure e aggressive. In "Ashes To Ashes", l'apertura è in batteria, con l'alternanza grancassa - crash - timpano, con il chitarrista che in seguito esegue un buon riff. nella song, durante il ritornello sono presenti dei cori stile Accept. "Empire Rising" è un preludio, un'introduzione strumentale che anticipa, la canzone seguente, "Atila The Hun", song perfetta, con drumming maestoso e voce di Biff molto spinta e riff durissimo e assolo spettacolare.
Queste sono le dieci tracce che fanno parte di questo nuovo lavoro dei Saxon: CD molto bello, tuttavia diverso dai precedenti album dei Saxon. Senza dubbio si è meritato un cinque pieno; questo voto comunque per me vale doppio, considerata l'età abbastanza avanzata dei componenti del gruppo, ormai destinato a rimanere alla storia della musica contemporanea.
