Impressionante. La prima parola che mi viene in mente dopo aver ascoltato quest'album è semplicemente impressionante. Che i Sensefield (ma diciamo pure ex-Reason To Believe) fossero una delle Band emo più originali, affermate e competenti lo si sapeva già, ma qui siamo di fronte ad una autentico capolavoro.
"Tonight and Forever" riassume da solo 20 anni di punk-HC della scena californiana e si proietta ben oltre, sfoggiando sonorità evolute ed originali che aggiunte alla superba voce di John Butch (probabilmente il migliore nel suo genere) fanno di questo CD qualcosa di difficilmente superabile (sempre nel suo genere). Il filo conduttore del disco è questo: chitarre in stile Dischord (Fugazi, Dag Nasty e Minor threat vi dicono niente?) e punk-rock emotional in cui traspare qualcosa di Pixies(!), Face To Face e My Bloody Valentine. Per buona parte del CD il "miele" tipico dell'emo è lasciato all'interno degli strumenti, magistralmente suonati da Rodney Sellars e Chris Evenson (chitarre), che sprigionano invece scariche di energica adrenalina. Avrete certo capito che non è il solito album emo palloso e piagnone, quello che per intenderci farebbe incazzare un metallaro, qui dentro c'è anche della violenza signori!
Degli stupendi 12 pezzi inseriti nel CD spiccano per efficacia Weight Of The World, Are You Ok, Save Yourself e No Longer Now, pezzi carichi e sostenuti, coinvolgenti, ricchi dei classici spunti ritmati che fanno saltellare la testa o istigano a staccare le labbra dal pomicio della propria donna (o da quella di un altro...). Ottima anche Love Song, un pezzaccio in stile Texas Is The Reason e suonato in maniera molto raffinata, in cui le sovrapposizioni fra chitarre "alte" e "basse" creano un atmosfera di ricordi andati, che è poi quello che in fondo si cerca in una vera band emo. Leggermente sotto tono (ma per me che sono un "sanguigno") sono solamente due pezzi e cioè Fun Never Ends e Am I A Fool, classiche tracks lente e sdolcinate, per amanti di gruppi come The Get Up Kids o Mineral.
Certo "Tonight And Forever" è un grandissimo CD di Hard Core melodico e penso che sarà ricordato come una delle migliori uscite emo di sempre, ma proprio per questo lo consiglio solo a chi di emo ne mastica...punkettoni emozionali di tutto il mondo unitevi, questo è il CD per voi!
