Dopo il cambiamento della line-up degli Angra, 3/5 (tra cui Andre Matos, voce) di essi hanno formato gli Shaman, una band dalla proposta musicale vicinissima a quella degli Angra, ma sempre di ottima qualità.
Il cd si apre con l’intro “Iancient Winds” che ricorda la struttura di una colonna sonora per poi passare a”Here I am” il primo brano vero e proprio che è abbellito da ottime orchestrazione e corredato da un bellissimo ritornello. “Distan Thuder” continua sugli stessi binari del pezzo precedente ma con un mood più oscuro (una cosa insolita per una canzone degli Shaman).
La quarta traccia è il pezzo migliore di tutto l’album, la sublime “For Tomorrow”: apre con delle note di flauto e ha un incidere tranquillo fino al secondo ritornello dove più volte cambiano tutti i tempi. Da brividi l’intermezzo dove Andrè Matos si riconferma a mio parere come il miglior vocalist metal. Il pezzo si chiude in maniera paurosa. “Time will come” è un altro splendido pezzo che mette in evidenza le straordinarie doti del vocalist. “Over your head” è un pezzo con un ottima intro. “Fairy Face” è una toccante ballad con dei coretti favolosi. Inoltre questo pezzo contiene uno degli assoli metal più belli che abbia mia sentito. So che sembra una blasfemtà considerando che l’assolo in questione è semplice, ma riesce ad emozionare come non riuscirebbe l’assolo più virtuoso.
“I bund spell” è un pezzo che passa inosservato, “Ritual” è un bel pezzo mentre “Pride” chiude in bellezza il cd.
Gli Shaman (e gli Angra…) hanno molti pregi: inanzitutto sono l’unico gruppo metal che riesce a mettermi di buon umore e poi emozionano senza inutili virtuosismi.

Ritual è un cd tutto sommato grigio, intrigante, riflessivo ed amaro: proprio come la bella fine dell’estate.
Matossi mette in mostra sotto un immenso l’occhio di bue la sua voce. Un controllo delle corde vocali impressionante, che mi fa drizzare i peli delle braccia ogni volta che l’ascolto.
