Non sono riuscita a racimolare mote informazioni su questo duetto... tuttavia, posso segnalarvi che hanno fatto da support band ai Depeche Mode... Come referenza, non mi sembra male.
Ma passiamo alla recensione dell'album vero e proprio. Si comincia con "Red Flags And Long Nights", ovvero un inizio lento che esplode solo dopo qualche battuta. Dopo di ché, possiamo goderci il singolo "These Things", un pò cupo e tetro: una gran bella canzone. "I Don't Want To Fall In Love" è affascinante per il suo titolo paradossale: come pregare di non innamorarsi quando tutto rivela che il cantante è già in balia a questo sentimento? Ma spostiamoci verso "Out of control", certamente una delle tracce più piacevoli e ballabili (non a caso è ambientata in discoteca).
Uno dei punti di forza della band è senza dubbio la forza dei suoi ritornelli ossessivi e, ad esempio, posso dichiarare che ho passato giornate intere con il ritornello di "Monologue" che rimbombava nella mia testa. Altro aspetto davvero interessante di questa formazione è il suo impegno nel creare fenomeni d'eco da una traccia all'altra... Prendiamo l'esempio di "Sister" che rimanda a due canzoni. Mi spiego meglio. La sister in questione dichiara "You can hurt me, do whatever you want" (eco con "Someone Must Get Hurt") e il cantante nota un "wall made of broken promises" (eco con "Broken promises For Broken Hearts", canzone molto melancolica). "Disconnect" costituisce un intermezzo strumentale che, mi evoca la pioggia scrosciante sui vetri. "Us", invece, mi ricorda una bella camminata soleggiata. Troviamo poi il preludio alla penultima traccia, "Someone Must Get Hurt": viene introdotto (o forse solo messo in risalto) il tema del dolore, del sadismo. Con "Tear You Apart" si risprofonda nell'osurità, nella sensualità: il cantante assume una voce ancora più cupa e in molti concorderanno che è una della migliori tracce del''album.
Chiudiamo con "She Loves Me, She Loves Me Not". Al primo ascolto, ho pensato "Ecco la canzone che rovina l'album. . altro che gran finale!"... Ma poi mi ha conquistato e devo ammettere che è una gran bella conclusione.
Finirei affermando che se vi piacciono i Depeche Mode degli anni 1986-1987 (aggiungerei pure "Ultra"), dovreste apprezzare questo album davvero coinvolgente.
