“The boys are back in town”e per nostra fortuna non hanno nessuna voglia di crescere. Ad otto anni dal pluripremiato “I Should Coco” (3 dischi di platino), che li ha fatti conoscere al grande pubblico, ecco uscire la quarta fatica del combo di Oxford, che non aggiunge nulla di nuovo a quanto fatto ascoltare in precedenza dalla band ma che conferma, semmai ce ne fosse bisogno, lo spirito che da sempre anima il loro guitar-rock : grande sense of humor, sincera immediatezza e melodie trascinanti. Ancora una volta lo stile Supergrass si coniuga perfettamente con i preziosi insegnamenti della scuola pop-rock britannica di nuova e vecchia data. Gli immancabili Beatles tornano in mente in “Evening Of The Day”, “Seen The Light” potrebbe essere stata scritta dai T.Rex mentre “Grace” senza gli Small Faces forse non sarebbe mai stata scritta e ancora Stones, Kinks, Jam, Buzzcocks, influenze che gli stessi Gaz e soci non possono negare. Continuando a scorrere le 12 tracce dell’album riusciamo ad apprezzare anche gli interessanti tentativi con cui la band cerca di allontanarsi per un attimo dal tipo di sound già felicemente rodato. Allora ci accorgiamo anche della veloce punk-song “Never Done Nothing Like That Before”, o del malcelato tributo ai Madness nello ska di “Brecon Beacons” oppure dell’intro strumentale vagamente psichedelico di “Prophet 15” che per un attimo ci porta alla mente gli Air di “The Virgin Suicides”. ”L.O.O.P.” può risultare efficacissimo in quei momenti di svago e spensieratezza che si rendono necessari in seguito ad un pesante abuso della cosiddetta musica “impegnata” ad alto contenuto malinconico, soprattutto sarà apprezzato da chi, nonostante il peso degli anni, ogni tanto canticchia “we are young/we run green...see the sights/feel alright”.
