L'inglese Terry Reid è uno dei tanti "geni incompresi" che hanno affollato la scena musicale degli anni 70. Nella prima parte di carriera i dischi erano puramente British/Blues, ma non è in questi lavori, se pur pregevoli, che và cercato il senso della musica di questo grande e sconosciuto artista. Tre anni dopo l'uscita dell'eccellente "The River", Reid, nel 1976 realizza "Seed Of Memory", l'album più bello del suo intero catalogo. Entrambi due sono ben distanti dal blues delle radici, ma orientati verso un country/rock con chiare spruzzate di jazz e Soul.
L'apertura dell'opera è affidata alla buona "Faith No Arise", dove Reid può da subito esibire la sua voce bella e graffiante. Il punto più alto dell'album lo troviamo già alla seconda canzone, ovvero la title track. Voce ruvida, chitarra cupa, batteria intensa come il ghiaccio ed il fuoco. Non ci sono tante parole per definirla. Una delle più belle canzoni che abbia mai sentito. Davvero splendida. Brave Awakening e To Be Treated Rite riprendono sempre il giro country, con un violino delicato la prima , e con un'armonica da brividi la seconda, si aggiungono al meglio dell'album. Questi brani (tranne "Faith No Arise") sono stati inseriti nel recente film Horror "La Casa Del Diavolo" di Rob Zombie.
"Ooh Baby (Make Feel So Young)" e "The Way You Walk" sono purtroppo modesti, e rovinano non poco il fascino e l'intensità raggiunti prima. Una caduta di tono ricuperata in parte dalle eccellenti ballate notturne "The Frame" e "Folling You", dove il ritmo lento e sensuale è valorizzato da uno azzeccatissimo sax.
Tirando le somme "Seed Of Memory" si merita le sue 4 stelle. Non è un capolavoro, ma è decisamente consigliato a tutti quelli che amano questo genere musicale.
