Questa raccolta mi ha fatto scoprire chi sono i Chemical Brothers. Ma soprattutto com'è la loro musica.
In questa raccolta vi sono, infatti, quelli che probabilmente sono tra i loro brani più riusciti: alcuni presi da "Surrender", parecchi altri da "Dig Your Own Hole" e non solo ("Push The Button" no perché sarebbe uscito nel 2005, mentre questa è, come dice il titolo, una raccolta decennale fino al 2003). "Song To The Siren" apre questo travolgente turbine acido-dance, con delle autentiche sirene d'allarme. Poi si passa all'acido vero con "Chemical Beats"; nella successiva "Leave Home" viene addirittura pronunciato, all'inizio, lo stesso "Ohhhmmmm" di "Ohm Sweet Ohm" dei Kraftwerk (!), a testimoniare che questi ultimi sono stati imitati moltissimo, persino dai Chemical Brothers. "Setting Sun", "Let Forever Be" e "The Test" hanno finalmente dei testi, stonati al punto giusto da creare quella che paradossalmente è una dolce melodia. "Block Rockin' Beats" mette in evidenza i bassi e (non per la prima volta) le urla.
Ma un brano che si distingue davvero è "Star Guitar": pieno di melodia "schiumosa", filtrante, è un piacevole (ma anche malinconico) viaggio musicale; proprio come l'altrettanto splendida "The Private Psychedelic Reel", una delle migliori insieme all'iperbolica "Hey Boy Hey Girl", geniale e travolgente.
E che dire di "Out of control"? Descritta alla perfezione dal suo stesso titolo! Ci sono due inediti ("Get Yourself High" e "The Golden Path") nemmeno troppo diversi dal resto della scaletta, ma comunque all'altezza del resto.
In conclusione: se non avete idea di chi sono i "fratelli chimici", cominciate da qui, da questa antologia.
