Ci sono canzoni che sono parte del background culturale di molti.
Motivi orecchiabili, canzoni POP che ne abbracciano pienamente la definizione per sopravvivere in eterno oltre qualsiasi confine temporale. Chi non ha mai sentito "Mr Sandman" gioiello immortale di quello stile chiamato "Barber Shop" nato nei saloni da barbiere nei primi del '900 nel sud degli Stati Uniti.
Pubblicata nel '54 e eseguita dal quartetto vocale delle Chordettes, quattro ragazze del Wisconsin che in quegli anni dell'America divisa del Maccartismo e della guerra in Corea cantavano di ingenue speranze, amori da conquistare, sogni da realizzare.
Il "Mr Sandman" del titolo è una figura mitologica anglosassone, un realizzatore di sogni. L'armonia vocale, il testo speranzoso e la delicatezza della melodia hanno fatto di questa canzone un successo strepitoso all'epoca della sua pubblicazione tanto che il regista Robert Zemeckis nel suo "Back To The Future" non può non metterla nel juke box della cafeteria della Hill Valley del '55.
Il gruppo proseguirà quattro anni dopo incidendo un altro must dell'evergreen, "Lollipop".
