I Goo Goo Dolls sono formati da: John Rzeznik (voce e chitarra), Robby Takac (voce e basso) e Mike Malinin (batteria). I Goo Goo Dolls nascono come punk band sul finire degli anni '80, per poi cambiare il loro genere in un pop rock molto bello. Questa "trasformazione" si completa con l'uscita dell'album "A Boy Named Goo" nel 1995, con singoli come "Naked", "Only One" e soprattutto la canzone che entra nel cuore della gente "Name" i Goo Goo Dolls riescono ad avere un discreto successo, ma non è abbastanza. Infatti è con "Iris"(colonna sonora del film "City Of Angels"), che i Goo Goo Dolls riescono ad avere un successo mondiale. L'album "Dizzy Up The Girl" che segue ad "Iris" vende 6 milioni di copie in tutto il Mondo. Nel 2002 tornano con "Gutterflower" che conferma sia il loro "nuovo" genere che il loro successo. Nel 2004 i Goo Goo Dolls pubblcano "Live In Buffalo July 4th 2004" che racchiude un cd e un dvd del concerto tenutosi il 4 Luglio 2004 a Buffalo (la loro città d'origine).
Nell'Aprile del 2006 esce "Let Love In" il nono album dei Goo Goo Dolls. "Let Love In" racchiude in sè tutto il percorso artistico del gruppo, ci sono brani stupendi che sono usciti prima della pubblicazione dell'album. Uno di questi è "Give A Little Bit" cover dei "Supertramp" che esce nel 2004 come singolo per il "Live In Buffalo", poi "Better Days" che esce in America nel 2005 e poi in Europa nel 2006 come singolo promozionale dell'album. La prima traccia è anche il primo singolo "Stay With You" una canzone d'amore per la propria città e per il classico oggetto del desiderio: la donna. Amore, è proprio questo il tema principale di quest'album, forse quello più pop della band. Segue a "Stay With You", "Let Love In" il secondo singolo che già sta scalando la classifica dei singoli Americana. "Let Love In" è sicuramente la canzone che più rappresenta l'album. Per scrivere l'album John Rzeznik è dovuto tornare a Buffalo per trovare l'ispirazione. Il frontman del gruppo ha dichiarato:
"Dando uno sguardo alla situazione mondiale, scopri che la paura fa fare alle persone cose spaventose. La paura è un catalizzatore per l'egoismo e la guerra. Ogni tanto mi sembra che perdiamo la capacità di ragionare. Avevo bisogno di aggrapparmi a qualche speranza. E' per questo che ho composto "Better Days".
Segue al secondo singolo, la terza canzone che compone questo album dalle 11 traccie, "Feel The Silence" è la canzone più calma e riflessiva e trasmette un desiderio di ascoltare quello che ha da dirci il tempo, che pùo spezzare oppure aggiustare le cose. "Better Days" viene collocata alla numero 4. La traccia numero 5 parla dell'abbandono e della mancanza della donna che si ama "Without You Here", nella traccia numero 6 John lascia spazio a Robby che canta "Listen" spezzando l'armonia dell'album; Si continua con "Give A Little Bit" una cover molto bene eseguita che dà un'allegria particolare e gradita. La traccia numero 8 è "Can't Let It Go" la più orecchiabile, la canzone da cantare sotto la doccia. Si prosegue con "We'll Be Here (When You're Gone)" canzone tiratissima con assoli di chitarra e voce di John inquietante, ma nonostante tutto anche questa orecchiabile (come tutte le song). Ritona a cantare Robby in "Strange Love". Come pezzo di chiusura abbiamo "Become" la canzone più amata dai fans e una delle più belle dell'album. Prodotto da Glen Ballard.
Quest'album mi ha dato e continua a darmi grandissime emozioni, non c'è una canzone che non ascolto. Questo album è siuramente quello piu pop della band, ma è stato molto curato nei suoni e poi i testi sono stupendi. Il titolo "Let love in" letteralmente significa lasciare entrare l'amore, ma può significare tante cose, come amarsi oppure lasciarsi amare, è questo il bello. Una delle mie canzoni preferite è "Better Days" perchè è una canzone che parla di speranza e ha una melodia favolosa. Non parliamo di "Stay With You" e "Let Love In" due pezzi stupendi e pieni d'energia. Non dimenticate mai che le canzoni dei Goo Goo Dolls fanno sognare ed è questa la caratteristica che li distingue.
