Seconda fatica discografica per la giovane band britannica proveniente dalla splendida Brighton. I giovani e promettenti The Kooks guidati dal leader e voce del gruppo Luke Pritchard provano a dare continuità alla loro ottima ascesa nel panorama indie-rock con questo nuovo album dal titolo "Konk", che prende il curioso nome dallo studio discografico dove è stato registrato.Sono molte le attese dopo il fortunatissimo primo disco "Inside in - Inside out" ma forse è il caso di dire che la troppa attesa abbia giocato un brutto scherzo a molti degli estimatori di questo gruppo in quanto sembra non esserci nulla di spaventosamente nuovo sotto il sole brightoniano...
L'album si apre con "See the sun", classico pezzo kooksiano, ottima scelta come brano di apertura, che alterna momenti intimi a momenti di pura frenesia che esaltano l'ugola d'oro del giovane Luke. Il secondo brano è l'ormai già famosa "Always where I need to be" singolo - hit che si vuole proporre prepotentemente come nuova "Naive", brano carico di energia e forse oserei dire unica perla di questo disco.
Saltellando qua e la all'interno del disco , tra la ballata "Mr.Maker", la rockeggiante dal ritmo felpato "Do you Wanna" e l'insipida quasi noiosa "Gap", arriviamo al secondo momento musicale degno di nota dell'album : "Love it all" che si propone tranquillamente come possibile secondo singolo, brano che con il suo ritmo rilassante sarà pronto ad accompagnarvi negli assolati pomeriggi estivi.
La terza e ultima parte dell'album non presenta particolari sorprese: scorre via piacevolmente senza stupire o lasciare segni indelebili , sembra di riascoltare un qualcosa di già sentito e proposto dai Kooks, brano degno di nota è la ballata semi - acustica che va chiudere il tutto "Tick of time" che vede curiosamente tutta la band al completo cimentarsi con strumenti e voce in un mix ben riuscito che chiude positivamente un album non da buttare via in quanto piacevole soprattutto per chi vuole approcciarsi alla musica indie partendo dalla più comoda delle easy-listenint, ma sicuramente non da incorniciare e venerare nella propria camera!
