MAGIC NUMBERS - THOSE THE BROKES

Una delle qualità che dovrebbe possedere uno scrittore di recensioni, uno "scrivente", è la sincerità. Purtroppo l'obiettività è un po' un'utopia quando si ha a che fare con altri sentimenti quali l'affetto o il pregiudizio.
A volte mi son lasciato prendere dall'affetto, e non sono stato molto sincero, altre volte sono stato eccessivamente "brutale", cosa che capita se si è delusi da un artista molto amato. i Magic Numbers non rientrano in questa categoria, perciò riuscirò a essere sincero senza sentirmi in colpa.
Ho apprezzato molto il primo disco di questo quartetto misto, c'erano ottime melodie, splendidi duetti, ritmi ballabili e ballate piacevoli. Hanno avuto molto successo nel 2004 -credo- e giustamente han pensato di riproporre la formula senza cambiare una virgola, anzi una nota, e senza averne l'ispirazione. Risultato? Un disco monotono e ripetitivo fino all'insulsaggine. I coretti ormai fanno sbadigliare anche gli amanti del genere, il suono è zucchero stantio come le voci pseudosentimentali; le canzoni si ricalcano una sull'altra, e con l'aggiunta di archi ("Boy") e influssi r'n'b ("Undecided") mentono a se stesse. I testi e lo stile del cantanto non farebbero sognare nemmeno innamoratini liceali tanto affondano nella melassa pop più banale. Certo la produzione è pulita e perfettina, ma oggi la musica non può limitarsi a questo, dal momento che è il requisito base (chiaramente sovvertibile, se c'è dietro genio e creatività).
Il primo disco aveva qualcosa di originale ed emozionante, in questo invece i Magic Numbers -dov'è la magia lo san solo loro- insistono troppo sui ritmi lenti e nemmeno qualche sussulto finale ("Runnin' Out") o la tipica chiusura con poesia della buonanotte ("Goodnight") lo salvano dalla noia generale.
Cos'è peggio di un disco "commerciale" falso e costruito? Un disco "alternativo" pretenzioso e costruito! Vale la pena prendersela con un disco inutile e spento? No, ma questi sono punti di vista, perciò se ci tenete tanto ascoltatelo e fatevi la vostra opinione.
