Mai capito cosa Victor volesse dire con questa frase, ma poco importa. Sì poco importa, considerando cosa solitamente succede dopo pochi secondi. Almeno per me, è impossibile ascoltare indifferentemente il divertentissimo riff iniziale di questo "A Show of Hands", appiccicoso come la colla e incredibilmente (guarda caso) groovy. Sin dalla prima ed appena citata canzone sono chiare le coordinate del disco, semplici nella struttura, ma incredibilmente complicate nell'esecuzione. L'unico strumento adottato nel disco è il basso, e forse questo elemento rende l'album un po' noioso in linea generale, e veramente godibile tutto d'un fiato solo per gli appassionati. Non considero infatti il lavoro in questione un vero splendore, perchè a parte diverse (bellissime) canzoni, non trovo un significato particolare da attribuire al tutto se non considerare quest'uscita come una pura dimostrazione esecutiva di diverse tecniche che lo stesso Victor Wooten ha contribuito a migliorare per lo strumento, nel suo genere e non (principalmente lo slap). Da segnalare sono la cover di Stevie Wonder "Overjoyed", la ben accessibile "More Love" e, su tutte, "U Can't Hold No Groove...".
Disco gustoso fino ad un certo punto, lo consiglio nella sua interezza solo ai bassisti in cerca di ispirazione (che dubito non abbiano in chiaro colui di cui stò parlando), mentre penso che tutti possano invece divertirsi all'ascolto di qualche pezzo considerato singolarmente. Non si è di fronte alla raffinatezza di Pat Metheny o all'inventiva di Jaco Pastorius, però con questo disco volevo mettere luce su un'artista meritevole di essere un po' più discusso in questo sito.
