La prima cosa che vi starete chiedendo è "solo un pazzo poteva assegnare un voto così basso ad un album di Whitney Houston" avete ragione! Ma voglio almeno spiegare le mie motivazioni in questa breve recensione.
Questo "I'm your baby tonight" è una PALLA TOTALE! Non mi sembra giusto registrare un album basandosi solo sulle straordinarie doti canore dell'interprete, infatti l'unica cosa ammirabile veramente in questo album è la solita voce magnifica della Houston, molto prima che iniziasse a stuprare le sue corde vocali con tonnellate di canne e mix di droghe varie, una Whitney Houston in gran forma ma che alla lunga stanca, a tal punto da non aver più voglia di ascoltare quest'album, manca il coinvolgimento sonoro! La musica nonostante l'album sia del 1990 continua a proporre quello stile metodico anni 80 fatto di sintetizzatori vari che però non mostrano niente di innovativo, musicalmente è una muffa!
L'album è composto da 11 tracce, di queste, possiamo ammirare le prime due, con un ritmo abbastanza vivace che riescono a trattenere l'ascoltatore anche al di là della voce, dalla terza canzone in poi si ha già la sensazione di voler farla finita con la vita! Basta ascoltare due volte di seguito "All the man that i need" e una lametta da barba o un coltello da cucina al proprio fianco potrebbe diventare veramente pericoloso! Vorrei farvi notare che sono un amante delle tenere ballate romantiche e delle canzoni malinconiche, ma nel caso di questo album ci troviamo di fronte alla sagra del mielosismo, che alla lunga diventa involontariamente comico, alla quarta canzone ti sei già scassato le palle! L'unica perla dell'album secondo me è "miracle", e una nota di merito va anche alla bella "After We Make Love"(la voce qui è da pelle d'oca!) che però da sole non riescono a risollevare le sorti di questo "noiosissimo" album.
Per salvare l'ascoltatore dal suicidio, ogni due canzoni circa la batteria si rifà più pulsante e i giri di basso un po' più consistenti, in modo da alleviare leggermente la depressione che si è impadronita dell'ascoltatore fin dai primi ascolti… in definitiva un album in cui la musica è di troppo! Se lo scopo di Whitney Houston è stato solo quello di valorizzare la sua voce gli conveniva registrare i suoi album a cappella!
Concludendo direi che ci troviamo di fronte ad un album cantato in maniera divina e… ok suonato con classe! (lo ammetto, nonostante quello che ho detto) ma talmente noioso e deprimente che si è meritato un bel due!
Se volete ascoltare musica di classe, sentimentale ma non deprimente , e cantata da una voce altrettanto meravigliosa vi consiglio di ascoltarvi Annie Lennox (leggete la mia recensione su "DIVA") forse il livello canoro è leggermente inferiore (specialmente nelle tonalità alte) ma rimane di una spanna sopra a livello di intrattenimento e d'atmosfera.
