Cosa succede se un gruppo tra i più grandi della categoria decide di fare il colpo e prendersi finalmente il successo che merita?
Basta dare una occhiata al nuovo lavoro dei Within Temptation "The Heart of Everything" da cui è stato tratto il primo singolo "What Have You Done", che ha addirittura avuto, ehm, l'onore? di accompagnare la pubblicità di una nota fiction di Italia 1. E quanti gruppi metal ci erano riusciti?
Tutto merito di una lirica quanto mai ispirata che strizza l'occhio a ciò che viene etichettato come "commerciale", ma che altro non è che una delle migliori song dei Within. Chitarre metal fanno da sottofondo alla voce di Sharon den Adel, miglioratissima dall'ultima volta, accompagnata dai lamenti maschili di Keith Caputo dei Life of Agony, veramente azzeccati. Il testo, incentrato sul rapporto d'amore, sulle vicissitudini, sui rapporti travagliati, sul "che cosa hai fatto?" che tanto si ripete nell'accattivante ritornello: "Cosa hai fatto? Ho aspettato tanto qualcuno come te. Perché il fato ci fa tanto soffrire? C'è una specie di incantesimo tra noi due" che trasporta le liriche dai lavori tanto trasognati e più epic dei dischi precedenti alla vita quotidiana e al gothic nuova scuola di matrice Evanescence.
Per finire, in copertina una immagine tratta da uno dei due video (ben due!) che corredano la promozione del singolo, sempre con la partecipazione del caro Caputo.
