E' il 1985 e l'ondata ferrosa che investì il mondo musicale all'inizio degli anni '80 ha ormai raggiunto dimensioni abnormi, a cavallo di quest'onda, che ve li ricordiate o meno, c'erano anche loro, i teutonici Accept. Tra i pionieri del metallo pesante e forse veri precursori del genere Power (ascoltare il celebre brano Fast as a Shark per credere), questa band ha saputo donare al genere uno spessore musicale non indifferente, grazie anche al loro inconfodibile stile che li fà apparire come la controparte Heavy degli Ac/Dc e che, a mio avviso, riescono anche ad eguagliare a livello artistico.
"Metal Heart", loro sesta uscita dopo gli acclamati lavori "Restless and Wild" e "Balls to the Wall", è un certificato sanitario che rende noto al mondo intero quanto il loro sound fosse ancora vigoroso ed inarrestibile, ed è facilmente additabile come la loro massima espressione artistica insieme ai due dischi appena citati e al successivo "Russian Roulette". Detta tale premessa, inserire il disco nello stereo offre una sensazione squisitamente eccitante e che non potrà altro che crescere all'unisono con l'immediata entrata in scena della titletrack. Con un testo a metà tra un film d'azione futuristico-catastrofico stile Terminator e un inno alla supremazia della "razza metallara", "Metal Heart" cresce lentamente ed in potenza, supportata dagli imponenti cori dell'immancabile esercito di metalheads comandati dal carismatico colonnello Udo Dirckschneider, vocalist dalla particolare voce che catturerà la vostra attenzione sin da subito con il suo stile di canto alla Brian Johnson (anche se guardando la cronologia, sarebbe da dire che Johnson usi uno stile Dirckschneider).
"Metal Heart" esplode nella sua aggressività contenuta, è cadenzata, è minacciosa, è una dichiarazione di guerra a chiunque voglia confrontarsi con degli Accept più determinati che mai, al centro del brano non si può non rimanere pervasi da una sensazione di compiacimento, con l'incedere di un assolo talmente metallico a livello sonoro da far sentire come un filo interdentale che ti entra in un orecchio e ti esce dall'altro senza darti pace, e seguire i cori inneggianti al ritornello è un'emozione senza tempo. Il brano successivo è la classica sferzata di novità improvvisa alla Accept, dopo la minacciosa entrata in scena, l'atmosfera si fà decisamente più leggera e spensiera, "Midnight Mover" è quella classica canzone in pieno stile anni '80 che al tempo sarebbe stata a fagiolo persino in una discoteca e al quale non si può rimanere indifferenti. Si continua a pieno ritmo con un classico del repertorio, "Up to the Limit" è quanto di più rockeggiante si può desiderare di trovare nel disco, mentre "Wrong is Right" è un assalto sonoro che vi travolgerà rubandovi il cuore. Più dolce si fà la situazione con "Screaming for a Love Bite" che mantiene comunque uno stile piacevolmente movimentato, successivamente "Too High to Get it Right" riprende lo stimolo da headbangin con un Udo che grida e sbraita come un black metaller in preda ad un esorcismo.
Un oscuro giro di basso ci inoltra in quel concentrato d'atmosfera d'altri tempi che è "Dogs on Leads", brillante ed isterica. "Teach us to Survive" rivela delle sonorità ed uno stile che potrei dire siano uscite da un film Noir anni '40, particolare ed irrefrenabile, continua in modo efficace il ritmo di un album che fin'ora non mostra veri punti deboli, e continua a non dimostrarne con l'irruzione di un altro classico del repertorio Accept, "Living for Tonite". Siamo arrivati alla fine del disco... e che fine! Neanche il tempo di riprenderesi dal viaggio che "Bound to Fail" esplode in tutta la sua vittoriosa solennità, se l'opener appariva come una dichiarazione di guerra, la chiusura ne sembra la decretazione di una scontata vittoria, con quell'aria di megalomania che la farebbe stare a pennello come colonna sonora di un film come "Il trionfo della volontà", ove Adolf Hitler recitava il suo discorso infiammando le folle e camminava in mezzo alle sterminate ed orgogliose truppe tedesche, così come in quel film, il colonnello Dirckschneider incita alla battaglia finale il suo esercito in delirio, e c'è da giurare che viste le sue origini abbia preso spunto proprio da quello storico documentario.
In conclusione "Metal Heart" si rivela come un classico del repertorio Accept e, di conseguenza, dell'intero genere Heavy Metal. Dire se sia il migliore o meno della loro discografia è un discorso superfluo, a seconda dei gusti ognuno decreterà il suo pupillo, certo è che dischi di questo calibro non possono passare inosservati per un appassionato del genere, se non avete ancora provato l'esperienza Accept, questo potrebbe essere un ottimo spunto per regalare anche a voi stessi qualcosa a Natale, un disco di sano Heavy Metal di alta fattura.
Detto questo vi lascio con quello che è il testo della titletrack, è un testo molto semplice e diretto, ma è un grande testamento di passione per un genere musicale ed è la trasposizione perfetta dell'animo di una band troppo spesso lasciata marcire nel suo passato dalle nuove generazioni di cui faccio parte.
