La terra francese sta riemergendo, specie per quello che riguarda il metal ed è anche grazie ad un gruppo come gli Adagio che può uscir fuori dall'anonimato.
Nati come gruppo molto vicino al progressive metal di matrice Symphony X, la band guidata dal virtuoso chitarrista Stefan Fortè, arrivata con questo "Dominate" al suo terzo disco in studio, decide di apportare dei fondamentali quanto profondi cambiamenti nel suo stile specie rispetto al primo album "Santcus Ignis".
Forti di una produzione eccelsa, ma anche di una tecnica individuale di tutti gli elementi veramente invidiabile, questi giovani quanto promettenti ragazzi danno vita da un album sicuramente molto più complesso e oscuro rispetto alla loro produzione precedente. Le varie sfuriate dal forte sapore black melodico, accompagnate dell'ottimo growl del chitarrista, vengono alternate a parti più vicine ad un power/prog di grande effetto con un pregevole uso delle tastiere che ricordano in più frangenti alcune melodie uscite fuori da "Dusk And Her Embrace" dei Cradle Of Filth: ciò non rappresenta però un sorta di plagio, infatti il gruppo pur facendosi più duro mantiene le prerogative di un qualsiasi gruppo prog; va inoltre detto che le parti in clean vengono svolte non più dal precedente singer David Readman, bensì il cantato è opera del brasiliano Gustavo Monsanto.
Composto da otto tracce il disco esplora vari campi metallici, oltre infatti al già citato prog/power e sfuriate black, troviamo partiture di batteria vicine a ritmi tipici del death scandinavo e anche parti più sinfoniche ed aperte, nonchè melodiche perchè resta proprio la melodia la caratteristica principale del disco. L'album scivola via sino alla fine, tingendosi nella prima parte di toni neo-classichegianti come nel caso della prima song, per poi passare al prog con accenni black delle seconde due tracce, per trasformarsi poi in un power/prog incattivito da ritmiche serrate, parti in growl che si alternano ad una pulita e cristallina voce pulita, accompagnata spesso da solos chitarristici (molto veloci, anche se alle volte sembrano più che altro degli esercizi di stile) che vanno a duellare con delle keybord che per tutta la durata del disco terrano compagnia all'ascoltatore deliziandolo nelle parti più melodiche, ma che aiuteranno ad aumentare la tensione nelle parti più oscure e cattive.
Da segnalare anche la presenza (abbastanza inutile a dirla tutta) della cover della canzone "Fame", che risulta essere veramente di troppo in un disco che forse non rimarrà nella storia, ma che sicuramente potrà soddisfare moltissimi palati, anche i più esigenti.
