Nel 2001 una band prog metal svedese pubblica "Extension Of The Wish"; la band ricorda il sound di band come Dream Theater, Children of Bodom, Threshold, Watchtower e Arch Enemy. Gli Andromeda propongono Prog Metal fuso con Power Metal nelle parti strumentali e sono presenti parti Power Death. Martin Hedin fa un uso assolutamente geniale delle tastiere ed è un arrangiatore unico, mentre il chitarrista Johnas Reinholds, pur dotato di tecnica superlativa, lavora sempre al servizio degli altri. Che dire poi della sezione ritmica composta da Thomas Lejon alla batteria e Gert Daun al basso, una vera e propria macchina da guerra. Menzione speciale va anche al cantante: veramente un grande interprete.
"The Words Unspoken" parte con il riff di chitarra che si ripeterà per tutta la canzone, poi parte con un ritornello melodico la voce, che non è niente di eccezionale, ma può migliorare. La parte strumentale è in stile Dream Theater, con un assolo di chitarra accompagnato da tastiere, basso e batteria. Il finale è improvviso. "Crescendo Of Thought" parte con le solite chitarre e tastiere, che si fanno notare molto di più rispetto al brano precedente. A metà canzone parte un buon assolo di chitarra, buono all'inizio, ma alla fine si perde. Brano comunque simile al precedente, anche per la struttura. Con "In The Deepest Of Waters" il gruppo comincia a fare sul serio. Ottimo inizio, mi ha colpito soprattutto il basso, ma anche gli altri strumentisti hanno una certa tecnica. Poi, dopo un minuto e mezzo circa, break di tastiere e comincia a cantore la voce, molto meglio rispetto alle canzoni precedenti. Dopo tre minuti e quaranta, il ritmo cala, ma subito riprende la tastiera che delizia le nostre orecchie con un piccolo assolo fantasmagorico. La canzone presenta un finale molto elaborato. La strumentale "Chameleon Carnival" parte con la solita chitarra per poi addolcirsi con la tastiera. L'assolo centrale di chitarra è davvero fenomenale. Prog eccelso.
"Starshotter Supreme" parte con delle vocals molto aggressive, direi quasi che rappano. Questa canzone si salva solo per le tastiere e per l'assolo di chitarra. La peggiore canzone dell'album. Una tastierista molto ispirato comincia a suonare "Extension of the Wish", la migliore canzone dell'album. Dopo i primi due minuti strumentali, la chitarra comincia a farsi notare, accompagnato da un ottimo batterista. Da qui i nostri ci deliziano con quello che meglio sanno fare e cioè suscitare forti emozioni grazie ad arrangiamenti sublimi e melodie d’autore con una grande parte strumentale (inevitabile il paragone con "Metropolis Pt. 1" dei Dream Theater). Così inizia la settima e ultima canzone, "Arch Angel", la canzone meno aggressiva dell'album, che dopo un inizio sostenuto lascia spazio a piano e voce per una melodia dal flavour sorprendente per oi concludersi con un assolo di chitarra (peccato per il fade out).
Insomma, sicuramente manderà in visibilio tutti gli intenditori di Prog Metal, come me; questa band farà ancora meglio con gli album "II=I" e "Chimera". Comunque "Extension Of The Wish" resta sempre un buon debut album.
