Ti senti spossato? Cacarella dovuta a troppa Mtv Brand: new? Bruceresti l'intero impero britannico pur di non sentire una nuova canzone dei Kaiser Chiefs? Pensi che gli Arctic Monkeys siano solo quattro deficienti bisognosi di tanti calci in culo e un bel pò di Topexan? Sei cresciuto a suon di camice di flanella e ora non ti va di passare ai jeans a sigaretta e alle scarpe a punta? Bene, non disperare. L'impero della regina qualcosa di buono l'ha prodotto... peccato che da tanta concimazione letamosa l'unico fiore è spuntato in Scozia.
I Biffy Clyro hanno cominciato copiando i Nirvana, poi hanno imparato a suonare e volevano imitare i Sunny Day Real Estate. Ecco tutto... sono partiti, come tutte le persone oneste, col volere imititare il proprio gruppo preferito per poi cercare di diventare il proprio gruppo preferito.
Una canzone ha tanti microcosmi che pare essere un album concentrato. Ad alcuni stanca, ma non a tutti. Ci sono riff, cambi di tempo, tempi dispari, ballate, donne barbute, canzoni da cantare quando si è ubriachi, mangiatori di fuoci, canzoni da cantare sotto la doccia, domatori di tigri e un singolo che fa fare al cuore BOOM BOOM ("Questions and Answers"). Poi: disco buono anche quando si è di buon umore.
Nel 2007 hanno sfondato. A Londra li passano anche dentro i McDonald... non so se è un bene, ma almeno la fila ti pesa meno. Sti ragazzi pompano, suonano di brutto, registrano in un giorno (questo disco, pubblicato nel 2003, è registrato in un giorno e si sente) e sudano ettoliti di sudore... OK: fine spazio pubblicitario.
Facciamo così, compratevi il disco, metteteli questi dieci euro per il disco che io metto i soldi per il Topexan... tanto risparmiamo un casino sul Guttalax.

È comunque l’imprevedibilità il marchio di fabbrica degli scozzesi.
Non è un capolavoro, è però un album vero, sentito con il cuore e fatto da tre ragazzi che sono ben coscienti di quello che fanno.
