Una delle mancanze più gravi del menestrello di Duluth è sempre stata quella di affidare la produzione dei suoi album a gente di cui lui non avrebbe dovuto fidarsi. Succede così che album belli come, ad esempio, "Street Legal", vengano penalizzati da una produzione a dir poco dilettantesca. In questo caso i fiati, che sono uno dei punti di forza dell'album, non si sentono assolutamente nella versione uscita originariamente in vinile. Per fortuna tutto è stato corretto e risolto adeguatamente nella scintillante versione in CD uscita oltre vent'anni dopo.
Un album che è sempre stato sottovalutato, questo, forse proprio perché in origine non si è potuto ascoltare adeguatamente, ma la ripulitura dei suoni in digitale fa risplendere nove belle (ottime) canzoni, con un'interpretazione vocale assolutamente fantastica del Nostro.
Non siamo ancora nel pieno della sua tanto criticata conversione al cristianesimo, ma quasi.
Lo si nota dalla presenza nel disco di alcuni cori in toni quasi gospel.
La canzone più famosa dell'album è senz'altro la bellissima "Changin' Of The Guards", pezzo autobiografico che sembra voler dire "Dopo 16 anni (tanti ne erano passati dalla pubblicazione del suo primo album) sono ancora vivo e ancora qui, non posso crederci!.
Ecco poi il country-blues di "New Pony", Ok, non sono più sposato, non ho più la moglie, ma ho un nuovo amore, il mio pony!

Poi c'è una bella ballata romantica, "No Time To Think", poi "Baby Stop Crying", forse un po' commercialotta, dopodiché vi sono due autentiche perle: "Is Your Love Invain?" è una bellissima canzone d'amore, qui Bob s'interroga sulla sua donna Conosci il mio mondo? Conosci che tipo sono o te lo devo spiegare? Mi lascerai essere me stesso o il tuo è un amore inutile?

"Senor (Tales From Yankee Power)" è una delle tante storie che circolano a porposito di disperati messicani lungo il confine, un pezzo che è stato più volte ripreso in concerto anche dai Grateful Dead.
Per chiudere, altre tre belle canzoni: "True Love Tends To Forget", "We Better Talk This Over" e, infine "Where Are You Tonight (Journey Through Dark Heat)" che chiude degnissimamente il disco con un finale intenso ed emozionante.
Grazie al cielo, il disco è stato ristampato e remixato degnamente, dopo la orrida produzione iniziale.
