L'anno scorso, rovistando tra i vari mp3 che avevo ho scovato questi Cinder, ho dato un breve ascolto e poi, colpito, mi sono sentito tutto l'album più e ancora più volte (e lo faccio tuttora).
Molti probabilmente non conoscono questi quattro rockettari americani, in Europa sono piuttosto sconosciuti e sinceramente non capisco il perchè, visto che ci sono Band peggiori che sono acclamate come dei o geni dell'innovazione. "Break Your Silence", debut album di questi Cinder, è uscito nel 2003 con la produzione di un certo Scott Weiland, lo ammetto non è un capolavoro ma comunque è un bel disco e lo apprezzo così per la sua semplicità; all'ascolto si percepiscono chiaramente le molte sonorità Grunge e Nu Metal che sono presenti nel cd.
“Break Your Silence” si apre nel migliore dei modi con l'aggressiva "Soul Creation" (primo singolo estratto), potente e adrenalitica, urla e chitarre distorte fanno da padrone, secondo me la migliore; poi si passa a "Crutch", canzone potente con versi rilassati, "Lush" parte semi acustica e poi si fa più Rock nel ritornello. Nel disco sono presenti diverse ballad semi acustiche, una di queste è "Tomorrow", cupa e bella che crea una bella atmosfera; a romperla ci pensa "Ugly" con la sua potenza distruttiva, che ci introduce al fulcro del disco, la Title-Track, "Break Your Silence" è una normale canzone Rock lenta, molto bella e sognante, forse la migliore del disco dopo "Soul Creation". Poi un'altra ballad semi acustica, "She Said" (quasi in stile Staind) forse un pò troppo sdolcinata per i miei gusti, forse la ballad meno riuscita.
"Consuela" (verso il finale qualcuno potrebbe collegare la memoria alle sonorità degli Il Nino) ha un buon inizio aggressivo però non esplode come ci si aspetta, peccato; "Whistin Pete" molto Nu Metal oriented, con strofe Rap filtrate e ritornello aggressivo (mi ricorda "Get Inside" degli Stone Sour). Arriva poi "Please God" che parte subito con un riff "muovi testa", ma nel ritornello abbassa un pò i toni; e infine si arriva all'ultima traccia, un'altra ballad, "Daddy" forse la migliore semi acustica del disco: Roger Young probabilmente sta parlando di suo padre che non ha mai visto perchè fuggito o morto, non ho capito bene (leggendo il testo sembra più o meno così il significato). L'ultimo minuto della canzone (e dell'album) non sono altro che rumori tipo film Horror e parole incomprensibili (mah...).
Ripeto, mi piace molto questo "Rompere il tuo silenzio", alterna momenti aggressivi a belle atmosfere melodiche, anche se un paio di Scream rabbiosi e qualche riff incazzato in più non avrebbe guastato (eccezion fatta naturalmente per "Soul Creation"); non essenziale, ma vivamente consigliato.
