Il 1983 è un anno importante in cui sono nati album metal e hard rock che oggi consideriamo classici e storici.
Nello stesso anno, si formò una band che oggi potremmo considerare come una tra le massime esponenti del movimento hard rock/hair metal: i Cinderella. L'hair metal, conosciuto anche come Street Metal o meglio ancora Glam Metal ebbe il suo massimo sviluppo negli anni 80, e nacque dal Glam Rock anni 70. Si identificavano con questo nome tutte le band hard rock/heavy metal che si proponevano con un aspetto particolare, caratterizzato la maggior parte delle volte da un trucco facciale abbondante e da abiti sgargianti dai colori risaltanti, e non ultimo le chiome notevoli ossigenate. Il Glam Metal si sviluppò come una malattia, e in un certo senso sembrò essere un requisito necessario, in un periodo in cui si affermavano Judas Priest, Alice Cooper, Mötley Crüe, W.a.s.p., Europe e tanti altri.
Ma torniamo alla nostra band, i Cinderella dal nome omonimo a una favola, ma preso da un film porno, che hanno vissuto effettivamente una storiella a lieto fine. Nel 1985 la band, con una formazione molto imprecisa, ma che di sicuro includeva Tom Keifer alla voce e chitarra e Eric Brittingham al basso, suonava in vari locali. Un giorno il mitico Jon Bon Jovi entrò a bere un drink in un locale dove suonavano i Cinderella, e rimase affascinato dallo stile della band, fu così che la presentò alla Polygram, etichetta discografica della Universal Music.
"Night Songs" del 1986 è l'album d'esordio, l'ascolto fà venire in mente immediatamente gli ac\dc soprattutto per la calda e rauca voce aggressiva di Tom Keifer. Il ritornello ripetitivo e la giusta ritmica cadenziata della title track formano la classica perla di hard rock melodico con fantastici riff e assoli di chitarra ruvidi. "Shake Me", illumina un pò di più lo stile di questi ragazzi americani, il ritmo è canticchiabile e allegro pur mantenendo viva l'atmosfera ribelle e aggressiva, ma si evidenziano all'interno del ritmo trascinante e nello stile del cantato canoni blues, in "In From The Otuside" molto notevoli, che condiscono meglio la composizione.
Ottimi gli interventi di chitarra anche nella tranquilla ma molto bella ballata, dal titolo "Nobody’s Fool", famosa e per parecchio tempo in testa nelle classifiche anni 80. Certe canzoni prendono molte caratteristiche dall'hard rock anni 70, è il caso della bellissima "Nothin'for Nothin" o di "Once Around the ride". Tra le mie preferite, "Hell On Wheels" dal titolo tipicamente rock e dal ritmo potente e selvaggio, come la cadenziata "Somebody Save Me". I Cinderella come ho già detto sono una band storica nell'ambito dell'hard rock, e il loro ascolto ricorda particolarmente gli Ac\Dc ; chi dai Deep Purple fino ai Def Leppard si è già fatto una scorpacciata del genere non sentirà niente di nuovo e diverso da quest'album, ma sicuramente non è da ignorare.
