Eccola la reunion dei "Crimson Glory"!
Bene, bene. I 5 ragazzi americani sono ritornati agli albori (e questo è un bene!), purtroppo senza Midnight.
La leggendaria power-metal band nel 1999 si ritrova come cantante solista Wade Black e come batterista Steve Wacholts al posto di Dana Burnell. Voglio considerare che questo album risulta un ottimo successore alla loro vecchia discografia anche se i vecchi fans sono per metà in disaccordo a proposito. Risulta molto più progressive con addirittura l'aggiunta di sonorità egizie, voci distorte ed effetti background molto più dark. Certo Wade Black non è Midnight, comunque spacca di brutto lo stesso.
Si può dire che questo album è un bel masterpiece anche se imparagonabile con i primi 2 e forse la vera bellezza si trova nel cd extra dove ci sono 3 tracce live del 1989 con quei momumenti sonori che sono: "Painted Skies", "Queen of the Masquerade" e "Lost Reflection".
Il cd degli inediti è composto da 10 tracce prorompenti inclusa una bonus track di 20 minuti (non è una canzone, ma una radiocronaca di un avvistamento UFO!): la prima traccia è l'introduzione dell'intera suite "March To Glory", famosissima melodia sentita e risentita; ma già dalle prime due canzoni "War of The Worlds" e "New World Machine" i riferimenti sono chiari all'apocalisse e alla vittoria dei robot sul genere umano ( potenti, orecchiabili e contaminanti! ); "Astronomica", "Edge of Forever" e "Touch of The Sun" sono le perle del disco che spaziano dal sound classico del metallo agli esotici sound egizi (non tecniche ma godibili e particolari). E come non può mancare come tema l'anticristo: ascoltate bene "Lucifer's Hammer", "Cyber-Christ" e "Cydonia" e ne verrete incantati.
Tutto sommato un buon lavoro, anche se a mio parere un pò fantastico. Un ottimo sequel che si discosta soprattutto da quella ciofeca di "Strange and Beautiful". La più interessante e che ancora non vi ho detto è "The Other Side of Midnight": la canzone chiave in cui Wade Black si autonomina l'altra metà di Midnight, con chiari riferimenti alla storia del passato della band.
