Esplode, l'ultimo album dei Dir en Grey, in ondate di energia distruttiva. Distruttiva, sì, ma in grado di caricare come poca musica riesce a fare. Diciamo pure che "spacca": possiede la rara capacità di esprimere anche sensibilità e dolcezza attraverso parole dure, che si aggrovigliano tra loro, senza mai far dubitare, neanche per un istante, che si tratti di un album heavy.
Si apre con uno dei pochi pezzi più leggeri a livello di sound, "Conceived Sorrow", e già da lì comincia a catturare l'attenzione, a creare l'atmosfera, a introdurre un mondo intero. I Dir en Grey non c'entrano (più) niente con tutti i lustrini e le paillettes che l'etichetta "visual kei" vorrebbe appioppargli; sebbene questa definizione non sia infamante, la band ha saputo disfarsene utilizzando la musica. Il loro stile, personale e ispirato, si carica di rabbia quando le liriche disperate della prima traccia passano il testimone a "Lie Buried With A Vengeance". Notevoli "Grief" (in cui la voce penetrante e irresistibile di Kyo accompagna ripetute imprecazioni a immagini suggestive come "il sangue sa di vaniglia"), "Disabled Complexes", "Rotting Root", "Clever Sleazoid" e la grandiosa "Repetition Of Hatred". Affascinante "Namamekashiki Ansoku, Tamerai Ni Hohoemi"; delirante, invece, "Agitated Screams Of Maggots" (che ripete con frequenza: "Violenteri tua figlia sulla tua tomba"). Insomma, "Agitated Screams Of Maggots", dall'inizio malinconico ai frequenti episodi di rancore, fino alle suppliche di "The Fatal Believer" ("Per favore, concedimi il mio piccolo desiderio: amami fino al midollo delle mie ossa"), è un disco che lascia senza fiato, per idee, compattezza, ispirazione.
Ed è solo musica: nulla di tutto quello che potreste leggere del visual kei su una rivista patinata.
