Quando i ricordi dei bei tempi andati riemergono in un'epoca in cui il pop di qualità è stato preso e gettato nel cesso da MTV e compagnia bella, allora fa piacere che ricompaiano nella loro line-up originale i Duran Duran. Lo fanno con un disco ruffiano, "Astronaut", che ripesca in chiave attualizzata tutta la loro produzione anni '80, con l'ammodernamento dei suoni di Nick Rhodes (tastierista del gruppo), grazie all'aiuto di due produttori del calibro di Rich Harrison (Alicia Keys, Mary J. Blidge) e Don Gilmore (Pearl Jam, Linkin Park), permettendo al gruppo di catapultarsi nel terzo millennio
Lo diciamo subito, la reunion della formazione originale ha permesso alla band di riacquisire quel groove ritmico affascinante creato dalle mani di John e Roger Taylor, perso nei dischi precedenti, mantenendo inalterate atmosfere edonistiche impergnate su un' elettronica a tappeto minimale. Il disco si apre con il singolo "(Reach for the) Sunrise", ripescaggio immediato dal loro esordio omonimo con un impatto alla "Planet earth". Il disco non decolla mai e le traccie proseguono quasi anonime per la nostra memoria, ma se li affidiamo un compito meno impegnativo di semplice accompagnamento, senza nessuna pretesa aristica, "Astronaut" con i suoi riff funky, i cori, le linee di basso in prima piano, e le intro sintetiche, realizza il suo scopo: Riemergerci in quegli anni, ancora vivi nella memoria collettiva, grazie anche al contributo di Interpol e compagnia bella. Ora spero che le ultra-trentenni, adolescenti negli ottanta, si facciano prendere da una nuova isteria collettiva, e che qualcuna si prendesse la responsabilità di scrivere un nuovo libro dal titolo emblematico "Invecchierò con Simon Le Bon". Sarebbe un bel modo di passare l'inverno.
