Le Electrelane sono un gruppo di rock alternativo inglese nato nei primi anni duemila e tenuti particolarmente in considerazione dal re mida del noise Steve Albini, a cui è affidata la produzione della maggior parte dei loro album.
L'esordio ostico ed eclettico Rock it to the moon miscelava post-rock, elettronica e grunge in un album dalle tracce ipnotiche ed introverse, facendo intravedere una tendenza spiccata all'originalità, contemporaneamente devota al sound anni '90 indie che incendiò gli Stati Uniti più di un decennio fa. Il seguito The Power Out (distribuito per la Too Pure) è un lavoro piu' definito e melodico, come un incontro tra i primi Stereolab e Pixies tra la voce stonata Verity Susman e i ritmi sghembi di Emma Gaze, anche designer del gruppo. La produzione di Albini si sente eccome: suoni ovattati, chitarre scarne e inconfondibili e un basso killer.
On Parade e Birds (spensierata e quasi innocua la prima, dolce e Yo la Tengo 'style', seconda) furono a loro tempo dei piccoli inni college rock (come accadde ai suoi tempi per Dinosaur Jr e Throwing Muses nei Nineties) mentre Take the Bit between your Teeth dimostra le loro velleità garage-rock.
Un disco godibile e a tratti innovativo in fatto di sonorità e spunti. Un must per gli amanti del genere.
Continueranno anche con l!album successivo la loro fruttuosa collaborazione con Albini.
