Enigma – “MCMXC a.D.” Il primo, il migliore.
Il gruppo guidato dal rumeno Michael Cretu si rivelò al grande pubblico con una grandissima hit del 1991, “Sadeness” che univa a un loop flauti, canti gregoriani, new age e un pizzico di dance. Questo “MCMXC a.D.” è probabilmente il migliore album degli Enigma. Dopo, solo qualche buon brano di successo (“Return To Innocenze”) e formula ripetitiva.
Quando uscì questo disco gli Enigma si affermarono come una grande rivelazione dance, dato che riuscirono a portare in discoteca sonorità inusuali e davvero originali.
Dopo “Sadeness” uscì un altro singolo, “Mea Culpa” che procedeva sulla stessa strada del singolo di lancio. E’ un suono ammaliante, sonnolento, coinvolgente, a tratti si ode anche un po’ di trip hop e di “The book of secrets” di Loreena McKennit.
Ma il vero problema di questo disco è che non c’è altro; se i singoli non piacciono non conviene comprare questo disco, alla lunga lievemente noioso e ripetitivo e con uno spirito che non convince del tutto.
Gli Enigma continueranno a fare dischi; nel 94 col loro opera seconda “Cross of Changes” ci sarà una netta conversione al pop, mentre con gli album successivi (“Enigma 3: Le Roi Est Mort, Vive Le Roi” 1997, “The Screen Behind The Mirror” 2000, “Voyageur” 2003), la formazione sarà seguita soltanto da una nicchia fedele, e non raggiungerà più il successo planetario. Anche se gli Enigma non hanno aggiunto niente alla storia della musica, sono stati comunque un buon episodio, un buon gruppo di passaggio che ha trasformato per un breve periodo le piste da ballo in sagrestie. Se vi piace il genere, non lasciatevi sfuggire il primo, e il migliore disco della band.
