La missione è ardua se non impossibile, trasformare un disco plasticoso, vuoto, come "Invisible Touch" in un evento.
I Genesis nel 1987 ne vengono da una serie impressionante di successi commerciali, una escalation incredibile che li ha portati a superare ad ogni uscita le vendite del precedente lp, un record. "Invisible Touch" uscito l'anno precedente è stato il colpo basso verso i fan, disco ammiccante alle sonorità pop di consumo opera in gran parte di Tony Banks, basti ascoltare solo il buon "No Jacket Required" di Phil Collins del 1985 per scagionare in parte il batterista dalle responsabilità del delitto compiuto.
Una serie di quattro concerti sold out chiude l'"Invisible Touch Tour" a Wembley nell'estate del 1987. Nonostante l'ossatura sia tratta in gran parte dal "tocco invisibile" il risultato è eccezionale, un concerto in cui i cinque si esibiscono in una forma strepitosa e poco importa se ormai gli anni '70 sono passati, i Genesis sono una rock band che può attingere da un repertorio sconfinato e costruire comunque un ottimo show. La partenza con "Mama" è entusiasmante, l'hand clapping all'unisono del colossale auditorio mette i brividi, la performance di questa lacerante dichiarazione d'amore verso una prostituta viene resa al massimo da un Collins in gran forma. Segue un'efficace versione di "Abacab", la coda strumentale con le due batterie di Phil e Chester è resa al meglio e il brano si conferma un eccezionale prova da palco per il gruppo. Con "Domino" ci si addentra nell'ultima opera, dal vivo è impossibile ricorrere ai suoni da nintendo ed ecco che questa suite si trasforma finalmente, diviene più ariosa e grintosa dall'ottima resa. "That's All" e "Throwing It All Away" sono due brani pacati, la seconda in particolare si dimostra anche in versione live decisamente scialba ed era meglio forse eseguire "In Too Deep" per i momenti soft. I suoni sintetici di Tony Banks aprono a "The Brazilian", strumentale curioso che anche nella sua veste live è una cascata di suoni metallici della Simmons, il raddoppio della batteria la rende ancora più sontuosa nella sua glaciale freddezza. "Land Of Confusion" e "Invisible Touch" diventano inni da stadio cambiando colore, soprattutto la seconda che dal vivo sfrutta al meglio la sua ruffiana orecchiabilità; la suite "Home By The Sea" viene eseguita in modo impeccabile, si chiude con il fantastico "Drum Duet" tra Thompson e Collins che apre alla tradizionale conclusione di "Los Endos". Ultima parentesi una tirata "Turn It On Again" con all'interno un medley di classici del soul e del rock, un piccolo omaggio alla musica tanto amata da Banks e soci.
Dal film sono escluse "In The Cage" e "Follow You Follow Me", regolarmente eseguite nel tour. Il disco successivo, il più complesso e articolato "We Can't Dance", venderà ancora di più di "Invisible Touch" confermando il gruppo ai vertici assoluti delle hit parade, ma sarà l'ultimo punto di una retta perfetta.
