Ogni album degli Hatebreed non presenta grande innovazione, ma questa lasciamola a gruppi che hanno un approccio diverso alla musica, fatto di sperimentazione che spesso crea malriusciti tutt'uno di generi. Gli Hatebreed non hanno bisogno di innovare e sperimentare quindi cercare di sminuire la vera realtà di questo gruppo con frasi come "canzoni troppo uguali" o "nessuna innovazione" significa cercare inutilmente l'intellettualismo e le forzature in musiche nate senza alcun bisogno di mostrarsi diversamente che con la propria faccia. Gli Hatebreed hanno come migliore arma una carica che in periodo in cui metalcore significa soltanto vocette melodiche e doppia cassa in ogni occasione è davvero oro, e poi una grande spontaneatà nel creare canzoni realmente rabbiose e ringhiate senza la solita rabbia adolescenziale di altri gruppuscoli metal-hc di ultima generazione.
Notevoli in questo album sono: i riff, che differentemente da altri gruppi hardcore presentano ritmiche più complesse e vicine al thrash metal, la voce di Jamey Jasta, un ruggito tra Max Cavalera e Iena dei Woptime, la produzione, ottima, che rende completamente giustizia alla brutalità del suono della band.
Defeatist apre l'album con forza micidiale, l'urlo di Jamey Jasta che lacera l'aria supportato da rullate e schitarrate maligne, le seguenti Horrors of Self e Mind over all presentano una struttura simile con l'intermezzo mid-tempo che spacca davvero con i suoi riff stoppati, ottime anche To the thres hold e Destroy everything, devastante come il titolo suggerisce, con un ritornello immediato e velocità piuttosto bassa, che porta parecchio vicini al metal invece che all'hc, anche nella potenza dei riff; degne di nota anche la penultima As diehard as they come, e la conclusiva Supremacy of self con cori che ricordano un po' gli Agnostic Front.
In conclusione un album ottimo, consigliato soprattutto a chi ama la musica dura ed estrema che concede poco alla melodia e molto alla rabbia, in cui convivono velocità e attitudine hardcore con potenza e riff metallici, batteria con doppia cassa e stacchi davvero mozzafiato, tempi iperveloci e tirati, ma non solo scheggie da un minuto e mezzo: anche notevoli mid-tempos e intermezzi lenti con riff stoppati e variazioni di tempo davvero entusiasmanti.

Il disco non è particolarmente entusiasmante, ma è giusto supportare questa band che mette tanta passione in quello che fa e che non delude mai.
