Conobbi questo disco per caso: un mio amico mi regalò un libro sul progressive e questo era inserito come uno dei dischi chiave del periodo. Mi informai, comprai il disco e me lo ascoltai. Dovetti riconoscere che, effettivamente, è un grande disco. Lo stile del gruppo risente molto delle influenze dei gruppi psichedelici, pur salendo in qualche modo nel carrozzone peogressive allora nascente. Ma andiamo ad analizzare il disco in questione traccia per traccia:
1)You Shouldn't Do That Da suoni che sembrano venire da una navicella si sfuma in un unico accordo di chitarra che sosterrà la canzone per tutta la sua durata (15 minuti). Il pezzo è ottimo con tessuto strumentale veramente magnifico sul quale innestano voci distorte e rallentate che declamano frasi senza senso.
2)You Know You're Only Dreaming comincia come un pezzo di rock "canonico", ma dopo qualche secondo si scivola in una jam session dello stesso stampo della precedente.
3)Master Of The Universe: senza dubbi il capolavoro del disco: una canzone molto Sabbathiana nel riff che la sostiene con la particolarità di avere dei suoni elettronici non identificati nella parte strumentale. Davvero un gran pezzo che non ha nulla da invidiare alle pagine migliori dei colleghi coetaneidi questi ragazzi (che ormai avranno più di sessant'anni).
4)We Took The Wrong Step Years Ago: altro capolavoro: questo disco sembra non avere punti deboli. Dopo pezzi di solido hard-rock con divagazioni elettroniche non ci si aspetterebbe di certo una magnifica ballata acustica (non si dimentichi che il cantante Dave Brock si è fatto le ossa a colpi di folk) con una melodia perfetta.
5)Adjust Me : Il brano peggiore dell'album non è un brutto pezzo in sé ma è troppo legato a quegl'anni e per questo è invecchiato male.
6) Children Of The Sun :Come chiusura dell' album scelgono un brano acustico che funge da perfetto suggello a questo disco.
Un ottimo disco di cui vi consiglio l'acquisto, non gli dò 5 solo a causa del suono che in effetti in alcune canzoni è molto datato rispetto a quello di moltre altre band che ebbero più fortuna commerciale.
