Dopo il controverso “The Dark Ride”, gli Helloween, i “pionieri” del Power Metal tedesco, tornano con un nuovo disco, in cui ritornano alle origini con il loro consueto suono "allegro", momentaneamente abbandonato con il precedente album. Inoltre la formazione è cambiata: oltre a Michael Weikath (chitarra), Andi Deris (cantante) e Markus Grosskopf (basso) si inseriscono i nuovi Sascha Gerstner (chitarra) e Stefan Schwarzmann (batteria). Durante la registrazione di questo “Rabbit Don’t Come Easy”, pubblicato nel 2003, il nuovo batterista si è ammalato e al suo posto, nei restanti brani dell’album, è stato sostituito da Mikkey Dee, noto batterista dei Motorhead.
Le atmosfere prevalenti di questo lavoro sono gioiose e spensierate, nel puro stile delle zucche. Il primo brano, “Just A Little Sign” ne è la conferma: il è ritmo sostenuto e festoso, con un ritornello trascinante. Il secondo brano, “Open Your Life” ha un ritmo meno sostenuto, leggermente più pesante, ma presenta un ritornello molto simile a quello della prima traccia. “The Tune” e “Never Be A Star” sono i primi brani suonati da Mikkey Dee, e il cambio di batterista si nota: la mano di Mikkey è più “pesante” e in generale la batteria risulta più presente; il primo è uno dei migliori brani dell’album, con un riff scorrevole e i velocissimi assolo nel finale, il secondo è un pezzo mediocre, che risulta “vuoto” e innocuo. Si prosegue con la bellissima “Liar”, che presenta un Andi più “cattivo”, accompagnato da un riff altrettanto duro. “Sun 4 The World" e “Don’t Stop Being Crazy” sono i pezzi più “happy” dell’album: il primo è solare e melodico, il secondo è una dolce ballad cadenzata. “Do You Feel Good” assomiglia un po’ troppo alle prime due canzoni dell’album, con un ritmo veloce e un ritornello orecchiabile. Allo stesso livello di “Liar” si pone “Hell Was Made In Heaven”, però questa volta Andi è meno duro, e il riff richiama delle sonorità Trash Metal. Forse il pezzo più mediocre dell’album è “Back Against The Wall”: una cavalcata trascinante che ha un riff che sembra ricordare vagamente le sonorità Nu Metal; il risultato è un pezzo che non entusiasma sin dal primo ascolto.
“Listen To The Fly” è un ottimo pezzo, con un ritmo indiavolato, e Andi che ha un timbro vagamente falsettato. Il brano più originale dell’album è sicuramente “Nothing To Say”, che è un mix di Power ad alcune sonorità Reggae, ed il risultato è un brano che alterna momenti travolgenti ad altri di quiete. La conclusiva “Far Away” (disponibile solo in Europa) è una rilettura più dura dei primi due brani, con un ritmo incalzante e gioioso, chiude definitivamente l’album.
In conclusione questo è un ottimo album, che presenta buonissimi pezzi in generale, ma si sente la mancanza di un capolavoro, come lo erano stati i primi due “Keeper Of The Seven Keys”, e l’ascoltatore si può ritenere soddisfatto da questa ennesima buona prova delle zucche più famose del Metal.

Sono proprio le melodie la carta vincente di questo album, è infatti quasi impossibile non ritrovarsi a canticchiare in continuazione canzoni come il singolo "Just a Little Sign".
Secondo me questo "Rabbit Don’t come Easy" è il miglior album degli Helloween dai gloriosi tempi dei due "Keeper of the Seven Keys", e scusate se è poco......
