2003: i Priest avevano da poco pubblicato "Demolition", album accolto piuttosto freddamente dal pubblico, ed erano in tour per promuoverlo. E' dal suddetto Tour che è stato registrato 'Live In London'. Al microfono troviamo Tim "Ripper" Owens, cantante presente fin da "Jugulator", che ha dimostrato anche nel precedente live "Meltdown" che, anche se non è ai livelli di Halford (in certi frangenti veramente irraggiungibile), riesce a cantare degnamente i vecchi classici priestiani.
Partiamo con la descrizione del live: la tracklist presenta molti classici e qualche pezzo da "Demolition" e "Jugulator". Il primo disco si apre con "Metal Gods", cantata bene da Owens e accolta da un boato del pubblico, e continua con vari classici, tra cui "Heading Out To The Highway", "Grinder", "Victim Of Changes", The Green Manalishi", "Running Wild" e "The Ripper", suonati tutti con maestria e, nel caso di "Victim Of Changes", diluiti con maestria attraverso mirabil improvvisazioni. Ma qua troviamo anche pezzi più recenti come "Blood Stained", "One On One" e "Feed On Me", in cui i Judas Priest dimostrano di saper rendere molto più accattivanti dal vivo i pezzi presi dagli ultimi dischi. Sinceramente adoro questa versione di "One On One", che considero lontana anni luce da quella in studio. Tra i classici non ho elencato "Diamonds And Rust", perché volevo fare una piccola descrizione di questo gioiello. Questa versione è acustica, colma di pathos e qui il buon Tim ci mette del suo, dimostrando di poter alternare urli acutissimi a un cantato più dolce, con vocalizzi profondi e mai acidi.
Il secondo disco si apre con "Beyond The Realms Of Death", e qui secondo me la prestazione di Owens cala un po', rimanendo comunque sopra la media. Dopodiché arrivano "Burn In Hell" e "Hell Is Home", presi rispettivamente da "Jugulator" e "Demolition", e qui vale lo stesso discorso fatto sugli altri pezzi presi dai succitati dischi. Dopo questi buoni brani, parte una carrellata di classici: "Breaking The Law", "Desert Plains", "You've Got Another Thing Comin'" e Turbo Lover".
In seguito si sente un rombo di motocicletta, e parte "Painkiller": questa è una versione magnifica, peccato solo per un piccolo errore sull'assolo da parte di Tipton, ma vista la sua veneranda età e l'artrite incombente lo perdono volentieri. Qui il concerto sarebbe dovuto finire, ma nella loro estrema bontà, i Preti di Giuda ci offrono il bis suonando "The Hellion", che come al solito è il preludio per la bellissima "Electric Eye", poi "United", "Living After Midnight" e, per finire, la bellissima "Hell Bent For Leather".
A questo punto il disco è proprio finito, e Ripper Owens lascia l'ultima testimonianza del suo operato nei Priest.
