Dopo aver realizzato due dischi poco acclamati dalla folla del tempo ma rivalutati ultimamente, i Kiss provano il tutto per tutto componendo nuovi pezzi per il nuovo album "Dressed to Kill". Datato 1975, l'album vendette sicuramente molto di piu dei precendenti, e permise al gruppo di sfornare un primo singolo, "Rock and roll all nite", che scalò pian piano le chart delle radio americane, con il memorabile ritornello: "I wanna rock and roll all nite/ and party everyday!".
Seguendo una linea musicale ancora un po' lontana dal glam dei successivi album, bensì piu vicina all' hard rock/blues, i Kiss sfornano una decina di pezzi orecchiabili, passando da canzoni vicine con i ritornelli a quelle dei Beatles ("Room service"; "Ladies in waiting"; Anything for my baby") ad un'hard rock più deciso (con canzoni come "She", della quale persino gli Anthrax facero una cover 25 anni dopo). Il momento più melodico è sicuramente l'arpeggio d'apertura di "Rock Bottom" nel quale Stanley e Frehley si avvalgono del suono di due chitarre Gibson acustiche di cui una (quella di Freheley) a 12 corde!!!
Successivamente a questo disco i Kiss realizzeranno il loro primo disco dal vivo che sorprenderà l'etichetta di produzione che ormai non aveva più fiducia in loro per la scarsità delle vendite! "Alive!" venderà più copie di tutti e tre i cd precedenti messi assieme e lancirà la carrira dei Kiss verso l'apice con la successiva triade: "Destroyer", "Rock and roll over" & "Love Gun"!!!
Paul Stanley: "Dopo "Dressed to Kill" eravamo pronti ad abbandonare l'etichetta perchè stavamo deludendo le nostre stesse aspettative. L'unica cosa che ci tenne assieme fu il successo di "Alive!".
